WDW POTC has one drop. I know that the DL ride is longer and better---does it have any more drops? And are they about the same as the drop at WDW? Thanks!

The DL version has 2 drops. One small one, and one that's a little longer. The drops are comparable to the WDW drop, and you're right--POTC is longer and better at DL. ;)

When was the last time you rode ToT at WDW? There are numerous drops, randomly selected by the computer, so you never know what you will get. I have never heard of only one drop in recent years. Thanks!Sus

Sue- ToT indeed has many more drops, but Alison was questioning Pirates of the Carribbean;)
I think the DL ride is far superior to WDW. Just my opinion!

The second small drop on Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean is higher than WDW only drop. The first drop is about 3-4 times higher.

<font color=navy>TOT = Tower of Terror

This is an attraction that is over at the MGM Studios in Walt Disney World. They are building a very similar attraction at California Adventure.

It has some really cool effects, and the 'ride' is an elevator that drops.

Fun Stuff :teeth:

No reason to feel silly. It takes awhile to get used to all the alphabet soup on the DIS. There's an abbreviation for just about everything here :D

Just a heads up. The first long drop is pitch black. It can be scary for the little folk. The second shorter drop is not well lit, but you can see the bottom.

lulubelle: I'm with you....I think POTC is better at DL too.....in fact, I think everything at DL is better! Except, there aren't any cruise ships!!! (Are you listening Disney???)

I must take issue with the "everything is better in DL." The WDW in Florida is sooooo much more beautifully landscaped and is a destination you can spend over a week at and never be bored! The resorts, restaurants, EPCOT, the water parks, the campground, nightclubs even the Magic Kindgom itself is a "new and improved" version of the original..... the list goes on. To say that "everything is better in DL" is ridiculous! Now I like DL, don't get me wrong. I went there once a year for my entire childhood at it will always hold a special place in my heart, but the breadth and scope of what Florida has to offe vs. what California has to offer tips the scales overwhelmingly towards the Florida side. Sorry to rant, but I couldn't let that pass.

Anyway, I'll continue my journey here since I'm planning a family trip to CA next year and thougth I'd check out this board.

"everything is better in DL."
I think that most people are talking about the rides themselves. It's pretty much agreed upon that many of the DL originals are better than the clones at MK. POTC, IASW, BTMRR, HM, Toontown, almost all of Fantasyland are among the ones that come to mind right away. Both resorts (yes, DL is a resort, even if it is smaller) have thier good and not so good qualities. WDW has about a dozen more places onsite to stay than DLR. It has more parks, it is a more immersive experience because you never have to leave the resort for anything. On the other side of the argument, DLR is within walking distance of many offsite hotels for travellers on a budget. People wanting to go to WDW on a tight budget are either at the mercy of offsite transportation or monitor the boards like hawks for the elusive $79 a rate at a Disney value resort. Another issue of transportation... The last two trips, I saw DEP at DCA, then walked over to DL to watch Believe. There was about 15 minutes from the end of the parade to the start of the fireworks. I made it with 12 minutes to spare. It would be impossible to see two shows that close together on the same night at WDW. Then there are also the intangibles. I get a lump in my throat when I see the light on over the Fire Station. Everywhere I walk, I feel Walt's presence (a corny as that may sound). I don't get that feeling at WDW. Someone on another message board put it in a different light once... they said that whenever they visited DL, they thought of Walt Disney. Whenever they visited WDW, they thought of Disney, Inc.

I've seen plenty of people get defensive about the resort they like the most, and there is nothing wrong with that. Some DL fans feel that DL has for too long been the step child of the Disney family (no offense to Steps. I'm one myself). Disney is only now (the last year or so) trying to turn that around and promote DLR as a vacation destination instead of a park for locals.

sters, I hope you have a great time on your trip to CA next year. FWIW, my next trip will be to WDW, and I will have a fantastic time. My 2005 trip will be back to DLR for the 50th Anniversary. :D

What Grog said is exactly what I meant. Correct, WDW is a WORLD of adventure, an amazing world all to its own. What I was referring to was the Magic Kingdom only. Granted, the MK at WDW is cool because it's on an island, but that is part of the problem. too. WDW didn't use enough space to make attractions like Small World the magical sight that it is in California. Same with Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and a lot of others. It was only the one park I was talking about. Sorry to offend.

No offense taken.. must be getting to much "California is King" attidude from my California relatives  It sticks in their craw, you see, that I'm a 4th generation Californian.. or is it fifith?.. and I consider myself an Easterner.

To be honest, I haven't been to DLC since 1989 and a lot has changed. At the time, I was disappointed with Peter Pan which was much, much better at WDW and I noticed no difference between POTC or IASW, except that WDW had this really nice plaza outside the ride. Now it seems to be moving towards an Alladin marketplace atmosphere.

I do now recall that there were 2 drops at DLC, as a kid I thought that was very SCARY and having just been to WDW there is clearly only the one and looking at the map the other day can see there are several attractions that are there at DL and not at WDW... like Mr. Toads, which I miss a lot (although Pooh is good, too). My point is that there will be a lot of new things for me and my kids to explore.

The Tower of Terror does not randomly pick drops. It is a set number of drops that the engineers may change once a year. I just got back and it was running four total drops! Last year it was three. I am not sure where you got this information but its not correct. The tower of terror and POTC actually doesn't drop you, it pushes you down, it is safer this way. And the computer is not able to randomly select how many drops as it runs too many times a day and could cause a malfunction. The drops may feel different but they are exactly the same every time.

Just an fyi!

This is an on-going debate we have in this household all the time... not so different from the Mac vs. PC and Star Trek original vs new Star Trek series arguments!

So true... I had never looked on it that way before :teeth:

Having experienced all four drop sequences of ToT in two hours time. I can say for a fact that it does randomly pick one of four sequences

Two shoot up first and the other two shoot down first.
