DH and I are planning 7 days in WDW ~ Dec 1-8, 2012. We are thinking we want to hit Harry Potter too.

We did 1 day at US back in 2008 but not IOA, enjoyed a few of the rides but agreed we'd never go back to US again, it just didn't have the WDW "Magic" we so love. This was pre-Harry Potter. We have to do HP some day, so since we aren't getting down to FL very often anymore it makes sense to add a day or 2 to hit it.

I don't think we'd want to hit US at all, so would we need 1 or 2 days for IOA? Is there more there like WDW that we will want to go back the next day, or will we miss that feeling and just be fine with hitting HP?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking US, we just don't see spending our money on it when WDW is right down the street and we enjoy it so much more. Does anyone else waver like this? How many days did you need to cover HP/IOA and feel like you got it all? I think we'd stay at a US resort so we can do the early entry to HP, probably at the beginning of our trip before we head to WDW for the duration.

I enjoy both parks... but if you have no interest in US, one day is enough to see IoA.

I'd want to go back the next day, personally. But I also like US, so your own mileage may vary.

I think one day would be enough. Like you, I am a big Disney fan. I just returned from my first visit to Universal, accompanied by my teenage daughter. Neither of us cared much for the rides at Universal and we didn't desire to go on any of them more than once. With Early Entry privileges and Express Access to most rides, it was easy to see everything in less than one day. (We didn't go to any shows.) Do be sure to get there when they open as the lines for Forbidden Journey and the wand shop got extremely long. Besides that, everything else was uncrowded during our visit. I would imagine it would be similar in early December.

We did enjoy walking around the Hogsmeade area. We also loved the Hard Rock Hotel.
