How many days? Park and Resort???

First the background:
We are in the planning stages of a trip for early February 2007 and we are going to stay onsite, most likely at one of the All Stars resorts.
My DD will be 5 1/2, my DS will be 2 1/2. This will be the first but not the last visit, but due to finances we probably won't be back for 4 or 5 years. (This trip is due to an inheritance).
Knowing we will be back, this trip is going to be all about the kids. We think we are only going to do MK and AK since it doesn't look like it is worth going to the other parks and my son will need to go back to the room for a nap every afternoon. We have been reading about all of the things to do in the resorts and think we would like to take advantage of some of those things, just touring the resorts, doing downtown Disney, riding the monorail, swimming, maybe the pony rides, campfire etc.
(I'll leave my non-Disney stuff for another question).
Ok... finally the questions:
1. How many days do we need to do the park, properly (not commando!) and 2. how many extra days should we plan on to spend doing the other things.

Not sure if you're only talking a short time or not, due to choosing only two parks to go to. There are a lot of interesting things for everyone at all 4 parks, including meeting different characters and parades and such. We just got back a few weeks ago from a 10 day trip staying at Fort Wilderness. I felt, as did the others in our party that it was the right length of time to not be rushed, go back in the afternoon for a break and see and do pretty much everything we wanted. It was the first time for most in our party too. If you can, I'd stay longer than a few days, after all, how many times will you make the trip? Go for the gold!
