From the Disney Mom's Panel. Disregard the 2013 stuff:

You can reserve you Walt Disney World Resort hotel room up to 499 days in advance of your arrival date by calling the Walt Disney Travel Company at (407)WDISNEY. Online reservations will not be available until the actual 2013 rates are released to the public which usually occurs in late Summer.

Here's how early booking works: When you call to reserve your room, you'll be charged a single night's hotel stay based on the current per night room rates. When the 2013 rates and package details for 2013 are released, your rate will be automatically adjusted to reflect current pricing.

If you wish to book a complete vacation package, you will have to start by reserving your spot now with a room-only reservation, as vacation packages are not able to be booked until the 2013 package rates are announced. Since you'll already have your room reserved, you can easily convert your room-only reservation to a Magic Your Way Package once the 2013 pricing announcement has been made, hopefully by late Summer 2012.

So go ahead and reserve your space for 2013 now while the getting's good. This will allow you to sit back and relax until later this Summer when vacation packages for 2013 are announced, knowing that your room is reserved and waiting for you!
