how many castmembers at WDW??

I'm helping my son with his homework project. He has to come up with a theme and then find a 1 digit number, a 2 digit number and so on up to 7 digits that stays with the theme.

Naturally he has chosen Disney
1 digit number 7 dwarfs
2 digit 25 Disney World hotels

but he is up to 6 and 7 digits and I'm trying to help him with this.

I think that there are around 50-55 thousand CM at WDW but I would like a more accurate number if someone has it.

Any other ideas would be appreciated also.

The most recent figure I heard (about a year ago) was 55,000 during the "off-season" and 65,000 during busier seasons (Christmas, etc.). Has anyone heard anything more accurate?

I think 55k is probably about right. When I worked there in 1997 there were 47k that was before Animal Kingdom opened.

Just last night I read (god knows where on the net--maybe even Disney's site, maybe not...) that there are 53,000 WDW employees. I remembered it because I thought wow, that's a lot!! Then I tried to figure out how much money they must pay those people every day. :earseek

Al Weiss, who is the President of the Disney World Resort, said on a Behind-the-scenes special on the Travel Channel that Disney World employs about 55,000 people. He also said they are the largest on-site employer.
