Hi, Dorothy! I was hoping someone with an official count would've answered by now - but here goes. I believe just under 200 people attended the first DIS convention.

I'm going out on a limb here (imagine that! ), but I think we were closer to 300 people BEFORE Sept. 11th. After 9-11 people dropped out for various reasons. I suspect that we will meet and/or exceed last year's numbers.

Really? That many? I was guessing by the number of different people that I saw in the pictures Pete posted that there was more like 30.
I guess that there may have been a smaller group that hung around where Pete was taking the pictures. OR... maybe I missed some of the pictures.

Ray, I'm sure they're long gone now, but in December I saw a lot of pictures Pete had posted while at WDW. There were not that many people in the parks around that time either. It wasn't just one picture. There were quite a few. I guess you could ask Pete if they are still on the board somewhere.

Carl, did Pete post the pictures or was it another DIS'er? A lot of DIS'ers took and posted a lot of pictures, but I don't remember Pete posting many.....if any at all. Oh well, either way, there were a BUNCH of DIS'ers there and we had a fabulous time!

I believe you are right. It was Dan Murphy who posted them, not Pete.
Do you have any idea how many were there?
Of course, the more that sign up for an event like this, the less per person it would cost. At least that is how this kind of thing usually works. I heard that Pete actually lost money on Dis Con I. A smaller attendance than expected would tend to explain that.

The deadline for last year was not too long after 9/11. Many people changed their plans for personal and economic reasons. It was a scary time to be making plans to fly to Disney for fun.

Those of us who did were glad we were able to. I had such a good time and I was able to meet the friends I had made on the boards. This year, we get to do it all again!

WOW! Thanks, Donna, for gathering up all those names! We did have a great turnout despite the tragedy of 9/11. It was wonderful time and I can't wait to do it again.
I knew we had a lot of people still attend. We had to have two nights for the Fantasmic dessert party.
