We will be going to SSR in October and I am wondering what percentage of people at the DVC resorts are generally DVC members. Also how early can non-dvc members book at the DVC resorts?

Mike

I really can't answer what the percentages are of DVC members vs. non-members but I have learned through this board that a certain percentage of rooms are made available to CRO. In addition, DVC members have the option of "renting" their points to non-members but must make the reservations for the renters.

CRO has room inventory at DVC resorts from various sources:

-- Disney Vacation Development (DVD) inventory that has not yet been declared into DVC inventory at any resort under development (currently only SSR)
-- Developer retained inventory (DVD does not sell 100% of capacity)
-- Inventory that represents the points that DVC members have used for most non-DVC usage, such as Disney Cruise Line, Concierge Collection, Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection. (World Passport Collection is an exception because that inventory goes to Interval International.)
-- Inventory during the breakage period, that would otherwise be likely to go empty.

Then, there are the guests who are renting from DVC member through a private transaction. And there are the non-DVC members who have traded in through Interval International.

My guess is that around a third of the guests at DVC resorts at any time are not DVC members, but that's only a guess.

When you are at the resorts, it's just about impossible to tell who is a member and who isn't unless you start talking. In addition to people who are renting, you also have friends and family of guests who may have been given trips using a member's points.

any villas or studios not being used by members or guests of the members at the 60 day time are put in the WDW resort inventory with all the other WDW resort rooms. This is a good thing - because the money receives (after the cost of renting the room is taken out) is put in the resorts general fund - so less annual fees for those members.

before then it is 5% that DVD retains - unless they need it because they are fixing something - or a DVC member has exchanged outside of II (as noted) - or a member has (as noted) either rented or gave his points to friends, family, co-workers or in the rare case strangers.
