I think I understood what you were trying to say, that there was another
game already made, but when Jason said the person who copied his game
had tested it for Jason, there can't be any doubt that the person
copied Jason.

However, Jason, that being said. Two people on my friends list had the
exact same game theme, but with two different room layouts...on the exact
same day! I went into Friend #1 room, and I thought she had a great game
setup. She hadn't opened it yet, but the room decor looked great.

Then I got a PM in VMK from Friend #2, someone who won Best Game before.
He wanted me to try out his game (which I've done in the past). I nearly
fell out of my chair when I saw it was the same type of game, just in a
differently designed room. I quickly sent Friend #1 a VMK message that
she better take a look at a game already open.

Needless to say, she was disappointed that she didn't open first, and she
decided she didn't want to open her game for fear of being called a "copier".
And the important thing is: Neither friend copied either game. It
was just a strange coincidence.

So in Jason's case, yes....he was copied. In the case of my friends...nobody
was copied.

I don't particularly care if someone copies a game idea. There is no patent in VMK. The game is more fun if there are lots of good game rooms.

I suppose perhaps I should feel bad for whomever invented cute or boot and falling chairs. They get nary a mention....

Falling chairs was on the game habbo hotel, which is made by the same company that is a big part of VMK, Sulake. Somebody probably carried it over from there. Who knows where Cute or Boot came from though.

Do people still play Habbo. I played that game for about a week, and quickly tired of it.

I disagree. Creating a new game is hard work. If someone blatantly copied
my games, I'd be upset that they got credit for my hard work. I don't think
it's unreasonable to get upset if you know you've been copied.

Possibly Habbo Hotel also. I saw a long time ago a room called "Cute or kick." And kick is Habbo Hotel's way of saying boot.

I guess if someone copies your room it can be a form of flatery. But we all know making rooms is difficult and its not easy coming up with ideas.

What is frustrating is when a "friend" leaves your room goes and changes his title to match yours, exactly.

Guess that can be expected tho.

Theres a room thats been pretty high on the best guest list now. A room I did some time ago and only released for a few days, my bad right?

I guess sooner or later we will run out of ideas with rooms. I hope not tho. Thats why its nice when vmk releases vmk building tools. Why cant they open a home depot? lol

I suppose if I came up with a great idea and someone blatantly stole it and won best room I would be annoyed. Otherwise, not so much. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Well in my case

The person tested my game before even building his then the next day he built the same game just with a different look and said it wasn't the same even though the game play was not even close to being different so he saw my idea then went and made it. I guess he liked it?

I think in Jazz's case this is obviously wrong. Other times, I mean, I know someone originally invented "falling chairs" but c'mon it seems everyone claims it LOL. There are alot of games/rooms copied. When a game is really original, it would be nice if the original owner got credit for it, once the owner did (best game room, or just a lot of happy gamers :) ) then it becomes part of the public domain, each putting their own twist on it.

Jazz, sorry you got burned that way by your friend.

Thanks aengus as they said I guess they just liked my idea so much they had to have it for themselves

Well, if people are out there stealing it, why don't you share it here and get some credit?

A movie director once told me that every single idea that a person thinks up, has already been thought of in this world. I asked him how he comes up with ideas related to his work, working with screenplays etc. and how difficult that is. He said that each person's mind is different and they carry their own view and their own style on that idea. What makes something different is how you portray that idea. It has to be special to you, mean something to you, and be you. That is what separates you from them.

If you have an idea, run with it. You genuinely believe that no one has brought this idea to the VMK world, run with it. If someone decides to copy your thought or idea, still run with it! Chances are it means more to you than them.
