How loud is Tomorrowland Speedway?

DD (2.5) absolutely HATES loud noises. The vacuum terrifies her. When her uncle comes over and revs his truck engine in the driveway, she cries and runs upstairs. Fireworks? Forget it. With that in mind, how loud are the cars at the Tomorrowland Speedway? Should we just forget this ride? I think it would be fun if it's not loud, but I don't want to FP+ something that we're not going to use. TIA

My youngest has always been absolutely terrified by loud noises.

What has helped a bit over the years is Peltor Noise Reducing headphones. The come in a kid version (and kid colors-- we had a hot pink pair when she was little, and replaced them with yellow for this trip) and they've really made a huge difference... she's been able to tolerate even limited fireworks.

Her brother loves the speedway, and I don't recall her ever wearing her headphones there. So maybe it will be a non-issue for your daughter.

That said, there are so many things to FP at the Magic Kingdom... why not FP some things that are less likely to scare her, then take your chances first thing with the Speedway? If she's too frightened, at least you won't have wasted your FP+

Hmmm, this could be a good idea. I'll need to check it out. Thanks!

I almost died on the Tomorrowland Speedway! Of all of the rides I've done in my life, it is one ride I would be happy to never ride again.

There is only a gas pedal & no brake. The only brake is if you lift off of the gas & believe me it works. Our vehicle seemed to only have 2 speeds- go & stop. I'm surprised my 10 year old didn't give me whiplash. I told her that I was shocked they gave her a driver's license since she almost killed me & that I should take it away from her & tear it up before she caused any more trouble. No baby (not talking about your 2.5 yo) should go on that ride- especially with a non-driver. The teenager beside of us couldn't stop hitting the track either.

I would also highly recommend ear plugs or headphones. Get her used to them before you go.

Have a great time even if you do decide to take your life in your hands and try this ride!

The main problem with tomorrow land speedway, is the height requirement. 54" means that anyone who wants to ride can't. And anyone who doesn't want to ride it can.

Children under 54inches can rides, they just cant ride alone. It's something like32 inches to ride. The child can "drive" and the adult does the gas. DS7 loves that place. It is loud but there are TONS of loud rides and attractions and that one may only a bit louder than many others. I strongly suggest the ear phones. Many of the 3-d movies are very loud too. The absolute worst for noise is the Cars Stunt show at HS. It even bothers me!

Unfortunately for me, this isn't true. It's 54" to drive, but only 32" to ride. My DD has dragged me on this a few times and I hate it. It is very loud and smells really bad (diesel fuel). My DD also uses the Peltor Kids earmuffs. They are essential in the parks for her.

Opps! Sorry! I didn't realize that :)

But still, the car goes along a guided rail, and you press a pedal how hard can it be?

Could Disney try installing smaller cars or something?

I'm voting with the try it first thing camp. My sons both hate loud noises and they both LOVE the speedway. It's also less noisy in the AM first things before they open all 4 lanes.

We also have the Peltor headphones - DD is 11 and still sensitive to loud noises. We got the pink ones first and last year I got her the yellow ones which are a little bit bigger. They work for the Speedway, fireworks and loud music if we sit too close to speakers during shows/parades :thumbsup2

I second a pair of head phones. We bought some for my four year old son this past trip after three trips of fighting with him in the bathrooms because they were so loud. Made all the difference in the world. He also wore them on some rides, like big thunder mountain and the dinosaur ride in animal kingdom. He's really sensitive to loud noises, but he wasn't at all bothered by the speedway. In fact it's his favorite ride. So I would definitely buy yourself some head phones for the bathrooms, and you can have them in case for the rides. Also, avoid the restrooms in the new fantasy land next Lafou's tavern. They installed those xcelorator hand dryers and they are outrageously loud.

DS1 doesn't like noises either (he covered his ears at the hairdressers this morning when she dried his hair on the lowest setting!!)

He had no problem on Speedway, but used earplugs for pretty much everything else - FOLK was the worst for him, he complained even with the plugs in!

LOLz!!

I do remember it being loud, and OMG the fumes. It is terrible. But DS adored it and it's on our schedule for RD one day.

It's a bit loud when you walk by as well - that would be a good test to see if she can handle the noise level. There's also a viewing area you could check out.

I don't remember it being terribly loud...however they had SO many issues with it when we were there last week. I went with our 7 year old, who drove (54" to ride alone, under that they need an adult for the pedal but I let her steer) and the steering on them in awful. My husband went by himself and the steering wheel actually fell off while he was driving. My 9 year old who is 56" tall went by herself and ended up needing a cast member to hop in with her because she couldn't push the pedal down enough. I had to push it down with all my might to go at a slow speed, so she was barely moving. It does smell horribly of exhaust too.

I guess there's only one way to find out. I'm gonna get her some ear plugs and check it out. We're spending 3 days in MK so we really want to do everything at least once (everything that she can ride anyway at 36 inches). And if we get close to the ride and she's not into it, then hopefully we can change our FP+s.
