Hello all. How long, would you say, a typical bfast at chef mickeys takes? I'm looking to go May 2nd Monday with my fam (wife and 2 young children) and we'd like to make rope drop at MK at 9. Also I'm staying at POFQ so can you tell me how long it would take to get to the contemporary from there? I assume I'll take a bus to MK followed by the monorail out. Thanks all. I'm having fun planningbut sometimes it seems a little overwhelming.

till you are done eating..................seriously.............no way to guess how long a bus will take............and...............it is quicker to walk from the bus stop to contemporary...................

I would give yourselves about 45 minutes to eat, because it should rarely go over that amount of time. However, I find Chef Mickey's always has a wait even when you DO have reservations. So you may say if you have breakfast at 8am to figure you should be out by 9am. But then you have to allow 5-10 min for the monorail to the MK.

I'd say an 8am breakfast would be as LATE as you would want to go to make the rope drop.

Why not try breakfast at Crystal Palace with pooh and friends and be IN MK already, BEFORE rope drop??

We have gotten loads of great pics of our kids in front of an empty castle that way.

Allow 60-90 mins for character meals. You have to figure you may or may not be seated right away, time to get food, time to eat , and time to see characters.

It's definitely the waiting to be seated that determines the length of the meal. The buffets, especially, don't bend over backwards to keep you in your seat. Last year at CM we had the check on the table halfway through our hot food. Probably took less than 45 minutes to eat, meet characters etc. Also, it depends where you are seated in relation to where the characters are. If they have recently passed your area when you are seated, even if you are finished, you have to wait for them to do the full round -although your server might try and usher them along if you ask - but that is totally random. To be safe, I would give 90 minutes.

I think we were done in an hour, hour 15 last May. We definitely didn't have to wait long at all and we were almost late arriving! (Pretty long line to check in though.)
We each did 2 trips to the buffet.
And we got visits from all the characters. I think the 90 min plan is safe. If you don't care about seeing all the characters as long as you get some in, that can help too if you're running late.

I would think about an hour for the buffet to see all the characters and eat. The bus transportation is hard to say how long it will take. It's probably a ten minute or less bus ride but you never know how long you have to wait for a bus. As far as getting to the Contemporary you can walk from the bus stop or take the Monorail. Sometimes if you have a very early ADR the bus driver will drop you at the Contemporary. I wouldn't count on this but it has happened to us twice.

Thanks for all the info guys! So we decided to go w/ crystal palace. There was something cool about being able to get in the park early. So we have an ADR for 8:15 which is before Mk officially opens at 9. What time will they allow us in the park for an 8:15 ADR? And if mk opens at 9 what time is everyone else allowed in? Do they go through the gates right at 9 or before? And finally do I have to go into a special gate to get in early? Thanks again for all the help planning.

Sometimes, when the characters start showing up...it ends up taking longer. You want to take pictures with the characters.
Also the kids want to interact with the characters.
1 hour should be good.

we had ressies for CP at 8:15 and they let us in at 8am..yes there is a special gate for bkft ressies..its all the way to the right if you're looking at the gates. They didn't ask us for ressie confirmation number's but they did ask others so have them handy...it only takes less than 5 minutes to walk to cp so you'll have plenty of time to take photo's in front of the castle...we do cp every time we go so we can enjoy the palace and main street w/o all the extra ppl in the shot. Good choice!

I saw that you had settled on CP and I think that is a great choice as it is the choice that we made.:thumbsup2

To add to your plan making, what if you scheduled Chef Mickey's for your departure day? Our family always does this and it's such a nice way to say goodbye to the World. Of course, we drive so we don't have to wait for the bus.

Now I'm worried...I have an 8:00 ADR for chef Mickey's. i really wanted to make it to the rope drop! Should I cancle?

WAIT! I just checked....my ADR is for 7:00. You think that will be enough time to get to rope drop?

It took us one hour to meet the characters have two rounds of food and pay the bill. We were seated almost right when they opened and were at the front gate of the MK a few minutes before RP @ 9 am

WE had a 7am ADR, were at the gates at MK by 8:40 at the latest. Perfect timing!

Crystal Palace

We have done the early meal several times. When we had an 8:05am reservation(twice), we met all of the characters and were out of the restaurant before 9am. They had ropes set up at the entrance to adventureland, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Liberty Square - -you could take fabulous empty photos, but you couldn't go get in line, but you are still ahead of the crowd. We were on the first BTMR ride last Sept.

Yes, there is a special line at the entrance - -all the way to your right as you face the park. They start letting you up Main St around 7:58am.

We also had ADR at 815am, twice. We did not meet all of the characters before we left at 855am. I would suggest paying as soon as you can so you are not stuck waiting for that.

CHEF MICKEY: I think this meal takes longer than Crystal Palace if you want to meet all of the characters. I would take a 7:00am ADR to make rope drop, but I usually err on the side of caution.
