How long will a shiny penny stay shiny?

Okay, this may be a very stupid question, but how long will a shiny penny - out of circulation - stay shiny? DD likes to make pressed pennies and at some point before our trip to the World we need to start collecting shiny pennies. I'd feel like an idiot if we had a whole stash of them, and then got them out and they were all dull. Anybody know?

Don't worry about finding shiny pennies, it doesn't take much to clean them. A couple of ideas

*Scrub the penny with a toothbrush and either catsup or baking soda/water paste

*soak in some vinegar or coke and rub with a cloth

DH already thinks I go overboard with trip planning. Wait until he sees me washing pennies!

Polish them with liquid foundation make-up. They will clean up easily.
