How long to wait with new twin girls?

My DW, DS3 and I were planning on an April 2007 Disney vacation. Had everything planned and booked when we found out DW was pregnant! No problem...DW was pregnant with DS on our last Disney trip in 2002.

Then we found out it was twins!

Not only did we have to cancel because it would not have been safe with twins to travel, I had to break down and buy the minivan.:snooty:

My question is this: I want to reschedule as soon as possible, but I don't want to travel too soon with twins and end up with a vacation that is more work than fun.

Do I wait until 2008 (1 year old), 2009 (2 years old) or longer?

Hello!

We went to WDW with our first DD when she was three in 2004. We found out right after our trip that we were pregnant - with Twins!!! They were born in July of 2005 and they are going on their first trip in October. We did take our first DD at 15 months, 26 months, and 37 months. We were not brave enough to take the Twins before this year. Our Twins were also not as mentally aware at 15 months like our first DD. Twins are such a blessing! Whatever you decide - congratulations on Twins! My twin girls are 2 and so much fun!

Congratulations on the twins!

We don't have twin experience, except for our Godchildren, but have had great trips with each set of grandparents - and then you're not outnumbered by the kids :) Do you have grandparents that would want to go and that would make for an enjoyable trip?

Congrats to your family about the twins! Very fun, and a whole different experience as compared to just one baby. ;)

We went for the first time when our twins had just turned two. We had a wonderful time, but it was definately a very leisurely trip. We took our time with everything, and very much went at the girls pace. With our son, my DH and I would just take turns doing the things he wanted to do while the other parent stayed with the twins.

In hindsight, we could've probably gone with the twins when they were younger - probably 15-18 months would've worked well for our family. But, my DH did not want to fly with them that young!

In any event, you will have a great time whenever you go, it is Disney!

Congrats again on your babies. :)

Thanks for the info! I hear of some people who are brave enough to take kids younger than 2, but I am fearful to do that myself. I have a tentative 2009 trip scheduled which would make my son 5 and the girls 2.

That is a great idea. There is one set of grandparents who would be able to make such a trip. This would help ensure that DW and I don't spend the whole vacation apart from one another, each doing what my son or the girls want.

It is great to know that a trip with twin 2 year old girls can be fun. Will just have to make sure to leave extra time and extra flexibility into the schedule. Neither of which I am good at!

I will never forget almost 9 yrs ago pregant for the first time, the doctor saying to DH and I "in this picture you can see 2" I was "uh huh?" so deleriuos! :confused3

My twins are boy/girl and how fun and special they are. We also have an almost 5 yr and 1 yr daughters as well.

We wanted to take the twins when they were just over 2 to get in "free" but it didn't work out so their first trip was a 6th b-day suprise. I say yeah go for it before they turn 3, maybe even the year they'll be turning. I have friend who is planning their son's 1st WDW trip the year he turns three but before his actual birthday.

Think of this trip for at least your girls as one for your memories. It sounds like you may go many more times. Our almost 5 yr old was just 2 1/2 when she went for the first time and she does remember little bits and can't wait to go next yr.

And I so agree on bringing some grandparents, if they like Disney, will go with your flow too, and then you can get a date night, you'll need it with twins....;)

Congrats again on the twins and happy planning!

We are going the second week in December wjith our five-year old son and boy/girl twins who will turn 10 months old on the trip. Ideally, we would have waited but our five-year old is at such a magical age, we decided to bite the bullet and just go. Our plan is to take everything very slowly. We are not "see everything on this trip" kind of people anyway, plus we live in NC, so it's not so far away. We'll hire a babysitter one night when we take our son and his older cousin (other family members are going) to Mickey's Christmas party.

We're so looking forward to it!

Good luck! I hope this trip works out well for you. It is great to know that others do plan Disney vacations with young twins.

Just got back with my 2 year old and 5 month old. I have to say that it was ALOT of stress with the 5 month old. He hated being in the stroller and it was very hot, so we spent alot of time in the room in the heat of the day. I wouldn't trade the memories for anything, but I think we will wait until my son is at least 2 before going back. I also breastfeed, and do not nurse in public, so the trips to the Baby Care Center were tough every 2-3 hours!

We went with our twins when they were 10 months old. They had a great time. They enjoyed the characters. We went with our little one when she was 6 months old. That wasn't too bad either - when it was too much, she slept. We took it easy. Be sure to rest and drink plenty of water & keep them hydrated. Be aware that what you want to experience may not be what they want to experience. Don't force the issue on anything and you will have a good trip. I think this really depends upon the child(ren). some kids are very portable (mine were). others are not.

Twins are wonderful. For our twins' first trip, we actually took my BIL & his family - he has 2 sets of twins plus a single! So we had 3 sets on our trip! They are a blessing.

First off, congrats on the twin pregnancy. You have been doublely blessed.
We took our first son when he was 2, and planned to go a year later, but for some reason decided to bump it up until 2 1/2. Low and behold, I found out I was preg with a long awaited pregnancy, so we went when I was 21 weeks along. I booked our next trip for when son#1 was almost 5, and son #2 was 13 months and suprise again, I found out I was pregnant with twins! We now joke that all it took for me to get preg was to book a trip to disney!! Well, anyway, we went when I was 13 weeks preg with the twins, such severe morning sickness that I was laying on benches in the park, but we had a wonderful trip. For the next trip, we waited until the twins were 2 1/2, and the other boys were 4 and 7. We had a great time, but it took so long to tour the parks, compared to when we had only 1 or 2. The other times, we had plenty of time to see everything, this time we left the parks with a lot undone. Our pace was surely slower, but the boys had a great time at 2 1/2. We didn't have anyone else with us to help, but I think it's what you're used to. You sort of find a way to do things with twins by yourself because thats what you have to do!

What you describe sounds a lot like what I expect to happen if we take a 2009 vacation to Disney. I expect that it will take us twice as long as normal to tour each park. Thanks for the reply!

We just went with our twins this past Sept and they turned two in July. I have a 5 and 6 year old as well so we were busy. It was a lot of work, but still lots of fun. I dont think I would have taken them before that age because they were not as aware of the characters as my older two were.

When the twins were 14 months I took my older two to Disney and left the babies home with dh. It was such a special trip because twins are a lot of work and take up so much time. It was nice to spend some special time with my older two.

Congrats on the twins!!!
