How long to wait for request

Hi everyone

Posting again with less info this time since my other post was deleted

How long should I wait before trying for a different resort? The one I tried for has a different room category that is less points that I can also try for?

I don’t want to miss out on other resorts!

I assume you mean for a rental request to come through from one of the rental agencies.

The answer is that the agency has to have an owner who has the necessary number of points that can book the resort and villa size you want. If you're currently more than 7 months out from checkin, only owners at that resort can book it; once you hit 7 months or less from checkin, any DVC owner can book it.

That's the long way of explaining why no one can tell you how long to wait. It all depends on the owners who look at that agency's potential bookings and decide that they have the necessary points and want to fill your request.

Thank you!!! I’ll give it maybe 2 weeks and then switch to a different category, we really want a certain resort and they do offer another room that’s less points so maybe that’ll up our chances

Yes, needing fewer points can improve your chances; so can being within that 7-month window before checkin, which opens up your booking to any owner with enough points as opposed to being restricted to owners of only that particular resort.

In case this is helpful for someone else. I don’t think I can say names of who I used? But the first dvc broker I tried went a few days and then I started getting nervous. I was stalking the dvc availability and could see all of my back up options slowly disappear. So I tried the other broker and in less than a day it’s secured!

So it is not all the same pool of people, for me it was worth it to take the chance. I pulled my request from the other one and will get my deposit back! It’s only if they secure it and then you back out that you lose it

That’s because an owner might choose to rent via one broker over another based on how much that broker pays them or other aspects of the way the broker treats the owner. Also, the brokers themselves might own points at the resort you want.
