How long to train for Princess 1/2?

I started training for the Princess 1/2 about 6 weeks ago. (go me!) I just started telling people that I am doing this and one of those people is one of my dearest friends. She's decided that she'd like to train with me, but she's having some surgery in two weeks and full recovery will be around 4 to 6 weeks. So, do you think that 6 months is enough time to train successfully for the 1/2? I am doing interval training with the C210K right now, so she would start with that, I would assume. I'd be happy to have a running buddy, but I don't want her to hurt herself!

I think it really depends on the type of surgery she's having but given the OK from her DR., I don't see why she couldn't do a half with 6 months or so while following a training plan.

I think like someone else said what kind of surgery, and making sure to get doctor approval. Also, take into consideration how active working out wise she was prior.
I wasn't able to train really at all for princess, longest run was 8 miles, but still managed to finish in 2:47. I'm a pretty active gym person though. (I would not advise not training at all though)

For my first half in 2010, I trained for about six months and felt fully prepared on race day. I hadn't had surgery first, but I did come straight from the couch. :)

The Galloway plan for new runners is less than 6 months. I think if she's already in active person she should be fine.

The Galloway plans are generally between 18 and 21 weeks, and start at about 3 miles. If she is not quite up to 3 miles when it starts, it is possible to cut out the last 2-4 weeks and still be fine to finish. He has you go up to 14 miles in training, with a 12.5 mile run two weeks before the 14 mile run, but if you get up to 11 in training, you will finish fine.

Thanks everyone! She will surely get the "all clear" from her doctor before starting the program, but it sounds like she will be great to go if she starts in June. :)

She'll have plenty of time. Galloway's training plan for beginners won't even begin until October. I ran it this year, started running in July of last year. I was very lax with training up through the end of the year, and really got into gear around New Year's. I had no issues training up, getting to 10 miles, and finished the race with no problems(other than an injury that wasn't really training related).
