With the increase in applications for passports, due to the rate increase and necessity of having a passport, how has it effected the turn around time for receiving the passport? Has anyone here applied within the past few months and gotten their passport in less than 4 weeks?

We applied on 2/18/05 and received ours back on 3/2/05. Only 1 1/2 weeks. I thought that was pretty fast. :flower:

We ordered our passports in early February and received them in less than one week. However, we payed the expediting fee which cost us a fortune. I wasn't comfortable holding my breath waiting day to day for them to "hopefully" show up.. at least paying the extra fee I knew I would have them.

I applied for a passport in December and it took approximately two weeks. Same for my husband.

We applied late January and got them back in about a month. But with the flood of applications I'm sure they are getting this week before the increase goes into effect, I would expect 2 months for anyone applying today through this weekend.

I'm not sure this will be too much help as the info I have is just expected delivery date... but when we applied on 3/7 she said we should have them in hand by 4/15.

There was a pretty good crowd there that day, but only one or two of us who knew before showing up that there was going to be a price increase. I would'nt have realized it without seeing it posted here on the Dis boards.

We applied on February 25th and were told that we would have our documents on or before April 1st.

We applied last week and were told it would take 6 weeks.

We went to the post office and did everything. We had ours in hand in about 2 1/2 weeks. It surprised me how fast it was.

We ordered them in Feb, and got them in 2 weeks WITHOUT paying the extra fee, since we didn't care as long as we got them before next November. Melissa

Sounds good to me. We applied this past Friday, March 4th. We also would not have known about the increase if it wasn't for this board. That's increase times five for our family. No small change. :)

We applied for our passports on 2/18 and have not gotten anything as of yet. Hopefully soon! I'm very thankful to everyone on this board that shares such valuable information. Without your words of wisdom, we would have waited to get our passports and it would have costs us a lot more money - x7 people!!! Thank you! Thank you!!

How much is the increase going to be? They're $80 each right now, right?

Thanks.

We are doing the Eastern cruise in November. Do we need passports? I thought I read somewhere that in the future passports would be required? What is the cost and how do I go about getting one?

Thanks,

We went today to get passports and that's when the raise went into effect.... today. :sad2: So I guess we missed out. I thought we had until the 12th but apparently not.

We are sailing 3/12/05 and on 2/28/05 when I pulled out our passports, I realized that my sons expired on 2/17/05!!!

It is a long story but we decided to use www.passportsandvisas.com because they can guarantee your passport. There is emergency service for 1-3 business days, rush for 4-6 biz days and standard for 7-10 biz days.

We sent it on 3/1/05 and asked for the rush package and it arrived yesterday 3/8/05. That was 5 business days from the day they received it on 3/2/05.

So if you are in a mad rush for a passport renewal, I say use the service because they "walk" it through.

We went to the post office for our kids passports on 2/19. They arrived today! That would be 2 1/2 weeks.

We applied with the masses on 3/7. The clerk told us that they we are guaranteed to have them back within 6 weeks. She also told us that they may not all come together.

The fees went from $85 to $97. That's a hefty increase when you're applying for the whole family. I now have justification for the amount of time I spend reading these boards. Look how much money we saved honey! :cool1:
