How long to eat at Ohana?

I just got a reso at Ohana for 6:55 and am super excited! How long does dinner usually last? We are taking our 2.5 year old and our first day in the parks will be the next day. Making sure we won't be starting toooo far behind on sleep. Thanks!

With one that young I'd sure try for something earlier. If you can't get in earlier maybe a nice afternoon nap for the kiddo. :)

We dined at O'hana in early December 2016 for both a breakfast and a dinner.

For each reservation we had to wait over 30 minutes to be seated. For our dinner, we had to wait 40 minutes. We checked in about 5 to 10 minutes early each time.

The meal seemed to fly by, but when we finished we realized we were there for almost an hour and a half. And we did not "take our time" either. But, we did fully enjoy each course!

So I would say 2 hours, but maybe our experience was a fluke?

Yes, this. We love 'Ohana but it always seats late. Always.
While I often read feedback like this, we've dined at 'Ohana since 1997 and we've only been seated late once - with a 30 min wait. Our dining times have been early, late, and everything in between. Funny how different the experiences can be! I definitely agree with figuring on a minimum 75 min dinner.

We had the coolest server last time we were at Ohana. He asked US how we wanted to pace our meal. He told us that he recommended a slower pace but was happy to alter than to fit our schedule. We were fine with slower and really loved the whole experience and ended up eating a lot more than way. You could always ask if you wanted to. BTW.... we have only once ever been sat on time there. That was when we had the first ADR time of the evening and got there about 15 minutes early. Most typical for us has been about 30 minutes late.

I have been seated on time and late. Last time there, we had not even paid for our drinks we ordered from the bar and our buzzer was going off. The earlier your ADR, the better chances of being seated "close" to your ADR time. They get backed up later in the night and it is just a domino affect then. We usually take close to 2 hours to eat and not "rushing".

Curious as to why it would take so long to eat once seated? Besides relaxing and enjoying your dinner, does the wait staff the servers that come around with the skewers not come around as often? slower? or is it just people sitting longer and enjoying? i also heard there's activities for the kids - so does this play a part in the slow movement?

All of the above ! The meal has a lot going on from kids activities to music. It can take longer for meats to come around, but that will be dependent on your server. 2 trips ago, we had a horrible sever who was completely overwhelmed by what he was doing. The last trip, had a fantastic server who went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of (above and beyond actually). I can easily be there for 2 hours and have it feel like it is half that.

75-90 is about normal for a Disney TS with multiple courses.

You are brought food out in courses, really, then there are multiple passes with the skewers, then dessert.

Thank you! :) Due to work demands, we're so used to eating on the fly, that slow and casual usually doesn't apply or work for us. This will definitely be an interesting trip.

We try to do 2 things: Get an earlier than "normal" ADR, meaning we try to get one between 5:30 and 6:00pm. With that in mind, we are hoping to avoid the "back-up" which takes place almost every night, especially later in the evening. The 2nd thing we try to do is get there early and check in. After we check in, we order drinks from the bar and relax in the waiting area. There are worse places to spend time waiting (if you have to) and having a cocktail or 2 is relaxing too. We have waited up to 30 minutes for or ADR, but once or twice, we were seated within 5 minutes of checking in at the podium. Last March, I had not even paid for drinks yet when our buzzer went off.

When did you find the back-up starts? Like when is the 'dinner rush'?

On our last trip they had just started the "early" dinner bookings (starting at 3:30) - and unfortunately we could only score a 4:00 ADR, but Ohana has become such a tradition for us, we took it, figuring we'd just have a late breakfast or something. Now we're normally "later" eaters (7:00 dinner times are our norm), but I have to say that the 4:00 seating was awesome! First of all we didn't have that painful crowded wait at the start (and we had a 2.5 year old with us, so definitely a plus!). And we weren't starving, so we took our time with the food and really enjoyed it. We were out of there around 6-ish, which was great. Might be worth seeing if what seems like a ridiculously early time is available!

We've eaten there a bunch of times and have also only been seated late. Last year in fact, we checked in early planning to have a drink at the bar and we were buzzed back before we even got our drinks - a good 15-20 minutes before our actual ADR time.

Since we don't have kids, our meal may be paced a little quicker than a family with little ones participating in the games. We are usually there about an hour once we are seated.

It took us about 2 hours for dinner, from start to finish. We only waited about 10 minutes to be seated.

It takes us about 45 minutes to eat. Then about another hour of sitting there until we can finally muster up the strength to stand up and waddle out of there :)
