I usually steam mine in a packet of foil on the grill. But now it's snowing. So how long do you cook it in the microwave or on the stove?
TIA!

I put mine in a skillet with a some water and steam it (with a lid on). Oh, I'd say about 15 minutes.

Yeah me too, but I do it for less time, I think it's under 10 minutes. It depends on how soft you want it to be. I just check it and when it gets to how we like it, it is done. :teeth:

You can eat it raw all the way to soggy so it depends how you like it. The Barefoot Contesa says to cook it 2-4 minutes with high heat in half olive oil half butter with a little sea salt. Get the pan nice and hot first. I like it that way but I cook it a little longer, maybe 6 minutes.

I roast mine in the oven with garlic and olive oil at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes depending on how thick the stalks are.

mmmmm .... these all sound so yummy! Bought asparagus this morning and might have to try one of these ideas.... I generally put it in the microwave coevered with a little water for about 2 minutes. Then add butter for the rest of the family. We like ours more on the al dente side.

Same for me...no garlic but sea salt and some pepper with the "EVOO" ( :teeth: )

I love it roasted. Like eating french fries it is sooo good!!

I boil mine for 5 minutes and then throw it in in ice bath to keep it from over cooking.

I agree with the five minutes - about that time in simmering water, or until you can just pierce a fork into it.

When I have time I do mine smothered with olive oil, sprinkled with sea salt, 500 degrees, 10 mins.

When I'm in a hurry, it's a corning dish, a little water, tight plastic wrap, nuke for 4 minutes (or until I notice its aroma).

Asparagus is one of those veggies which i simply cannot eat steamed or boiled. It makes the vegetable bitter and disgusting! I like the roasting idea, above. We also saute the asparagus on a grill pan, with a little olive oil and garlic salt.

I roast it as well, except I roast mine in hazelnut oil with chopped roasted hazelnuts on top.

One tip: Be careful not to leave the roasting asparagus unattended. It goes from perfect to fried to a crisp in no time.
