How long to close?

I am getting ready to make my first purchase at BCV. How long does the process take?

Hi Tom, and welcome to The Dis!
I have found that from the moment you give your guide the go ahead, to the day of closing, takes roughly 5 weeks. I just did one in 4 (waiting to close now, but I have the date), but also had one take 6. Much of it depends on how fast you get your paperwork back to DVC (that is, if your are purchasing by mail).

Just note that if you buy from Disney, you can make reservations using your points as soon as your paperwork and loan (if getting one) is approved which is usually a couple days after you return the paperwork and a month before closing. The process from intial agreement to buy and down payment, to sending signing and returning papers, and then getting approved can take anywhere from 10 to 20 days depending on how fast you return things and closing generally occurs about 30 or more days later.

You do NOT have to wait for approval to make ressies. We made them the day we told our guide we wanted to buy. We didn't have any paperwork and we finaced through Disney eventually. They just need to assign a membership number which can be obtained the same day if you tell them you want to buy. You do have to put down your deposit to get a membership number assigned. We did this over the phone with a CC.

What about banking? Do I have to wait until closing to bank points?

I am building up to a BCV purchase this month and was told that Feb was the default use year, which would be good. So, if I only have until end of July to bank all of my points, do I need to have the deal closed before then. We are not planning a trip until late next year (have a new baby and need time to save for the other trip expenses).

I have not discussed this with my sales guide yet, but thought someone here might be able to help since we're on the subject.
