Hi Dis Friends,

We leave in a few days for WDW. Today, I got the thorough maps of all the parks and I've been studying it with detail.

I'd like to know how long is the walk from the Magic kingdom's train station to say.....Cinderella's castle? How many minutes? A mile?

I want to coordinate our rides and shows with our restaurant PS.

Also, on the map of Disney Studios -- after we see Fastasmic... it appears to be a large opening of grass on the left. Can we cut through that area (behind the Beauty and the Beast building) to get to our buses quicker? They should have put a sidewalk there for a shortcut path to get out of that theatre.

Thanks.

It is no way near a mile from the train station to the castle. Maybe a 1/4 mile or less.

Yes you can exit fantasmic that way. There is an exit from the stadium that cuts behind beauty and the beast and comes out near the park entrance.

The Passporter has great maps in it of each park and it tells distance which I like. It says from Train station to Castle approx 3:30 minutes to walk it.

Mrs. JHenry,

Passporter map?? I guess I don't have that one. I have a good detailed map with all the restrooms, restuarants, etc. It just appeared that the walk from the train station to the castle seems sooo long.

Thanks.

By the way, my husband and his family are from Cicero, NY!

The perspective on the MK map makes the walk look really long.

If you've never been to EPCOT before I will warn you that all of the distances are longer than they appear on the map! Our first trip to EPCOT with little ones, we didn't realize how far we had walked until we were at the far end of world showcase. We had planned on taking a break that day but realized it would take so long to get out of there we just kept touring and touring and touring and stayed through illuminations. We refer to that day as the EPCOT death march.

AEC,

Yes, people did tell me that Epcot is a two day park. And you're right about the map of Epcot, it doesn't appear that big or long walking park.

Thanks for your input.

The Passporter guide maps have a really neat feature where they estimate travel times along common routes in the parks.
Check them out - www.passporter.com

For fun, I pulled up a satellite photo of the MK and measured the distance from the station to the castle as .2 miles.

Cool - my guess of .25 miles or less was pretty close!

Keep in mind that the landscaping seen on the park maps is not always accurate. Also many areas that appear to be large areas of grass around the park are actually backstage areas. This is the case with the area next to the Fantasmic Theater. The area is filled with backstage type stuff. However, there is a path they allow guests to use through this area after the show, but it will not lead you to the buses or even out of the park. It will lead you back to Sunset Blvd on the other side of the BATB Theater. They can't let you directly out to the buses because you must exit through the parks turnstile system so they can keep an approximate count of people in the park.

Actually a little known fact is that the distance between the train station and the castle varies. In the morning, when everyone is fresh, it is about 1/4 mile. When it starts to warm up, about noon, it increases to 1/2 mile. ABout 3:00, trying to make your way through the parade crowd, the distance increases to about 2 miles, and by late evening, about closing time, it is a much, much longer walk, at least 5 miles. ;)

ChuckS - I notice the same thing, but I thought it was just me.

hysterical, ChuckS...I almost just spit out my coffee!

ChuckS....unless, oddly if it is your final night at MK and then the walk is all too short....

Good one, Chuck.

Here's a tid bit that's a little less tongue-in-cheek: As you are walking up Main Street toward the castle, you are actually walking slightly UPHILL. The road was purposely designed this way so that tired guests leaving the park at night will be walking DOWNHILL toward the park exit.
