How long have you been a DISer?

I’ve been here since March 2003. I rarely post though

I started reading the DIS boards in the fall of 2000 and created my original account in Jan 2001.

This account was created a year ago because I didn’t want to discuss the topics I needed to discuss at that time, as my original, and I think, fairly well-known user name.

December 2000. We just bought our first computer for home and got it set up for internet. Couldn't wait to start searching for Disney sites and found this one pretty quickly and stuck with it.

August of 1999.

My mom had been seriously illness in the winter of "98-"99. That lead to the realization that life is short and my sister and I planned a "once in a lifetime" trip to Disney World for her family and me as the favorite Aunt. Just before our trip in October of 1999 for the start of the Millennium Celebration, I found this site to help with the planning.

By the way, I have been back more than 30 times in the ensuing 25 years. I have infected my extended family with the Disney bug and I now have a niece and nephew who are cast members. They each did the college program and never came home, preferring the Florida sweltering summer over 4 season Michigan with a serious amount of winter.

LOL, I just tapped on my user name up top to see whether it said when, and discovered I’m a DIS Legend! When and how did that happen? I really think I joined before the date under my avatar, but I can’t remember. I do know that I lost over a thousand posts due to a DISboards server change at some point. And I remember when DISboards’ name was slightly different (possible copyright concerns), and there was only one forum that contained all the posts. Splitting things up by topic made it much easier to follow!

I started reading the DIS in 1998, but I guess I didn't join until 1999; it was 25 years in September! The boards have been through a lot of changes in those years!

Just lately, I've noticed that all the posts I read are written by members who have been on the DIS a lot less time than me. Nothing wrong with that but I just found it odd. When did that happen?

So I've been a member since 1999, who can beat that?

My date shows as 1999, but was on here longer than that. Our first trip was in 1986 but that was before, I think, that the DIS existed. The wonders of Prodigy! So take 1999 and subtract to account for all the times user data was lost. I'd guess around 1995 or so. Obviously, I'm a reader not a poster.

Me too, I miss that site. It was a lot of fun. Then again, WDW was a lot of fun at one point in my life. Now it is just a money pit plus I'm older than dirt so pain is also a part of the experience. Wish I could go back to the days when the only thing that hurt were my feet.

Very comparable to aging. It is amazing how many people that are active on here now weren't even a twinkle in their mothers eyes when I first joined. As for general life, in so many situations now, I don't even have to ask to know that they are younger than I am. Finding someone older is more of a challenge.

Thanks Dan. The years have flown, and now, in the twilight, we find ourselves 25 miles from the mouse. Still love it, but circumstances make it feel like a carrot on a stick at times.
