In November, we will be driving from Indianapolis, pulling a fifth wheel. We usually travel at the speed limit or within 5 mph above it. We stop about every 3 hours for fuel. How many driving hours should we expect from Indy to FW?

We are in NW Indiana and it took us 17 hours of driving time. We hit some traffic in Atlanta though. We spread this over 2 days. I would say maybe 14-15 hours from Indy?

Mishawaka!

We're from Bremen - going down for our first WDW trip at the end of this month (flying from SB Reg).

It has taken us anywhere from 18-20 hours (including stops) from Fort Wayne. It can also depend on whether you take I-65 or 75...I find that 65 is quicker, but with the 5th wheel, it is more difficult to get through the mountains, so depending on how you feel about pulling a trailer through some pretty steep mountains, 65 is probably your quickest route. We usually stop somewhere in Georgia to spend the night, they have some pretty inexpensive hotels, and Georgia has the best gas prices, so a great time to fill up also. But as I am typing I realize, DUH, that you don't have to stay in a hotel since you have the trailer, so that is probably not a big issue for you

I would try to time it so you are going through Atlanta either in the evening after 8pm or so, or in the very early morning, probably before 7am is a safe bet. If you get there at any other time, you will probably be sorry :earseek: I would allow 10-12 hours to get to Atlanta from Indy. I think that is a pretty conservative estimate, especially since you will have to stop for gas about every 3 hours.

Have fun on your trip!

Wow! Those are some good driving times. When my parents moved to Florida when I was 17 it took us 16 or 17 hours just to get to Jacksonville from Louisville, KY.

I used to drive semi with my ex--Jacksonville takes almost as long as you have to go east so far-- I would say from Indianapolis it would take between 18-19 hrs-depending on how you are driving, but I have made it to Jax in 16.5 hrs--but we dont want to talk about that!! pirate: :teacher:

LOL I was 17 at the time and my dad was driving the moving van while I followed in the company van. (<---dont ask  ) He was pegging the needle almost the entire way. Except of course when we went through the Rockies. I told him flat out that I wasnt speeding up or down those. LOL I'm surprised we didnt get killed.

We've driven 3 times the last 5 years from Chicago (with a now 9 and 6 year old) We stayed over in Atlanta and just a couple of suggestions. We toured both Turner Field and the Coca-Cola plant and they were big hits with the kids. Especially Coca-Cola. A great way to break up the monatony of driving. We also did the Jack Daniels tour in Gatlinburg TN, and while the info is a bit over their heads, the scenery was beautiful.

It's really worth breaking into 2 days. Otherwise expect blowing a couple of hours at reststops to unwind.

Good luck,

Andy

We are about a block West of Mishawaka High School.
My grandparents use to live across the street from the Mishawaka HS football field on Studebaker Street. I still have family in Mishawaka, but we live in Griffith which is near Hammond.

Marie, I was born and raised in Gary which is not that far from Griffith or Hammond!

Hey other Hoosiers!!

We live in Columbus now (south of Indy about 35 minutes), but I grew up in Portage and went to a private High School in Griffith!! The region is my ol' stompin' grounds!!

We drove to Orlando in the summer of 2003 pulling our pop up camper. When I asked my DH how long it took us, he said "Too Long!!" We split it up in two days b/c of our girls.....too long in the car is not a good thing!!

We hit a bad traffic jam just south of Atlanta, so our total drive time was somewhere around 20 hours. DH is a Police Officer, but still goes well over the speed limit. (I guess he hopes he would get out of a ticket with his badge - ha ha!!)

Good Luck - it's a LOOOOOOONG drive!!
