How Long for Ohana at Dinner?

Hey there...I'm wondering how much time we should allow for Ohana at dinner time...we're going in September (on the 29th) - currently have scheduled 5pm, but wondering if we could do it a little later and be fine??

We are doing the Magical Fireworks Voyage (grand gathering) at 8:15pm that night, and I believe it leaves from somewhere at the Contemporary...we're planning to go to Animal Kingdom that day - so we'll need to leave a little before the park closes...

So...we need to be at Contemporary around 7:45 (want to allow extra time to find where we need to go, and I'd rather be early than late)...so what's the latest I should book for Ohana and NOT be rushed??

It only took my son and I an hour to complete our meal when we had dinner there back in 2005.

Wow...it really depends. The good news is it largely depends on YOU, not your servers or the pace of the food. It'll depend on how quickly and how much you want to eat, since it's an all you can eat meal. It took us (at the time, my wife, DD3, DS 1, and I) about an hour and 20 min to eat, keeping in mind our kids were pretty involved in the extra-curricular stuff (coconut races, etc) and we weren't really in any hurry to finish up. Also, I'd think the more people you have in your party, the longer it's going to take....but that's just a hunch.

You could probably push the meal as late as 5:30 or 5:45 and still finish with more than enough time to take the 20 min monorail ride to the CR and get to your boat at the marina.

I have found the pacing here to be pretty quick. They serve you fast, it depends on how much you eat and how fast. For 2 of us, it typically takes less than an hour.

We ate at Ohana last September and we were 4 adults. Even though we had ADR we had to wait at least a half an hour after our ADR time to get in the restaurant. I do believe our ADR was around 5 at the time. Remember that 5 is the witching hour for dinner so you might have to wait. I would rather make time for dinner and if you have time leftover wander around the resort and take your time getting back to the Contemporary for your boat ride. It's always better to allow more time than having to rush your meal.

Plus, make sure that you are real hungry before you go to Ohana because there is a LOT  of food to eat.

Sorry for a group of four adults taking our time to eat it was about an hour and a half...and we did eat.:sad2:

thanks for your input...I think we'll just leave the ADR alone and just look around the resort if we have time. Can't wait!!! Only 172 days until we leave!

We were at Ohana the beginning of October last year and had 6:30 ressies. We waited a 1/2 hour to be seated. Dinner was painfully slow maybe more so than any other restaurant during vacation. DS was tired and was falling asleep at the table. The only good thing, we were able to see the 8:00 fireworks at MK from our table. If it wasn't so slow we were going to watch from the beach but it worked out well because with DS cranky and tired we just would have found our way back to the room and no fireworks :thumbsup2
