how long for a solo trip?

I say 6 months... then leave, come back the next day and go for the rest of the year!!! :lmao:

I did a solo trip for 4 nights - went to HS for a half day on my arrival day, AK for a morning/early afternoon, then split the rest of the time at MK (did a Keys to the Kingdom tour) and Epcot. Last day I went to Blizzard Beach before my late afternoon flight home. It was just the right amount of time for me. We buy 10 day non-expiring tickets and get 3 trips out of them.

I've been solo 3 and 1/2 times, planning my 4th.

1. Tacked 2 1/2 days to the end of a family trip with me solo Sept/2011.

This was my second WDW trip (prior trip was with family and only for 1 1/2 days). The added on days were after I had already spent 3 days doing Epcot and AK with family at a moderate pace. So I spent the next 2 1/2 revisiting MK and Epcot and visiting DHS for the first time. I'd only been to MK for one day previously so I wanted the chance to visit all the parks. By the end of the trip I'd been there a week and that seemed long enough as in I didn't feel rushed nor did I feel that I had done everything already so had time on my hands.

2. (plus a half) Tacked 1 day before and 3 days after a trip with a friend Oct/2012.

These days bookended 3 days (one off site at IOA) where a friend met me there and we did F&W festival on the other two and just did limited MK and DHS stuff as well. Honestly it was a very commando trip and by day 6 I was too tired to even care about a park. So too long. The one day was too short to really do much, but those 3 afterward probably would have been fine if I hadn't had 3 busy super active days before.

3. 3 days full days All Solo trip March/2014.

This was a great length for me. I had the ability to Park Hop so I could spend as much or as little time in any park as I wanted and I basically just hit my favorites. Not much meandering, but I did take half a day to do a tour and booked a couple of ADR dinners. So a great mix of park favorites and relaxing.

I originally had a 4 park day trip planned for Jan 2015 Solo. Wanted an extra day incase I decided to go off site to US or SW and like I said 3 days seems to work out great for me. However due to the airline cancelling my mid day flight I am now arriving (barring snow storm or mechanical failure) in Orlando at lunch. So I have 4 1/2 days planned. I think it'll still be a good number of days (I'm planning ADR's in eve and planning on doing another tour or two). My last park day I'm going to play by ear as that will be the day I go offsite or if I decide to stay at Disney I'll just take it easy and maybe hit a few favorites since I'll still have the ability to PH on this trip.

So if you're going to hit the parks commando I say stick to around 4 days, if you're going to relax then 5. But I wouldn't do less then 3.

I dream of a solo trip, happy to hear you are doing it!! My sis wanted a 40th birthday solo trip to Disney but sadly didn't make her 40th birthday :( So I say GO FOR IT and make it amazing :)

If I were to go, I would make sure I had at least one FULL day per park. I know dhs is debatable as a full day park right now, but I would get at least a 4 day hopper ticket so I could do what I wanted there and then hit up another park like MK to make sure I got to everything I wanted there.
sorry for your loss. thats sad. :( Thank you. it'll be a wonderful trip. its on my bucket list to go solo, so i figure why not try it for my 40th!? And youre right about the park hoppers. I will get those. I think its essential for a shorter trip.

The only negative I found was eating at TS restaurants. There was only so much I could look at on my phone! I didn't even really mind sitting there in silence and enjoying the atmosphere, but I didn't want to appear lonely. The plus side of this is that someone did feel bad for me and paid for my entire (expensive ~$50) lunch one day! :cool1:
Meh. Eating alone doesnt bother me. But for a shorter trip i probably wouldnt have more than 2 ADRs. Congrats on the free meal. wow thats very generous of them to pay for you! I hope I get lucky. :teeth:

:lmao: I like it!

I never worry about sitting alone. I do sometimes pull out my phone but honestly I always get my food so fast that I don't have to fill that much time.

I think they do try to get singles out fast (both to help cut down what may be awkward for some but also so that they can turn the table quickly and hopefully get a bigger party next).

My longest totally solo trip (no one meeting me for a few days here and there) was 17 nights. Typically they are 10 nights, and about 50% of the time someone will come by on the weekend in the middle of the trip to hang out a couple days (my trips usually start on a Tuesday and end on a Friday, so there is one weekend right in the middle of the trip). The shortest (not counting day trips) was two nights.

You just need to figure out how much time you can afford and how much time you need to get through everything you want to accomplish. There's no perfect number. Heck, if I could afford it, I'd stay a month or two solo!
