I need your opinions on a solo trip. It might sound strange, but i've always wanted to take a solo trip to disney. Im finally going to take the plunge next year, for my 40th birthday. I've never travelled alone before, so this should be interesting.

Question is, how long is long enough for a solo trip? I thought 3 nights might be good. But what do you guys think? :confused3

I've taken many solo trips over the years. Most have been 7 days, shortest was 5, longest was 13 (too long). Most of these trips I have met up with many folks from the dis boards, so not actually really solo as such. I would say 5 days is a good number.

You might also run the question by folks on the solo board here.....

In any case, you will have a great time on your solo trip, enjoy.

Unless you go to WDW a lot...I don't think 3 nights will be enough. I usually go for 7 nights so that I have 6 full days in the parks. Two @ MK, two @ Epcot, 1-1/2 @ DHS, and one @ AK. I get to go once every 3-4 years...so that's the main reason I take a longer than 3 night trip.

You'll have a fantastic time...it really is freeing going solo.

Next solo trip in February I will be there for five days. Flying in early Wednesday and leaving out late Sunday night. This way I can enjoy another park day on Sunday.

Where would you like to stay?

I go solo a lot, so I'm cool with just 3 days or so at the parks. Mostly because I know what I like to do and can get it done quickly. lol It was strange going alone at first, but so FREEING. I didn't have to wait for anybody. I didn't have to ask what anyone wanted to do. I could go as fast...or as slow...as I wanted. Eat where and when I wanted. I love going with my family, but going solo has forever changed me. haha

I just did one last month for 6 nights. I like to take it easy on these trips, I go to a park in the morning/early afternoon, take a break at the hotel and then go out in the evening. Since I was at BWV, most nights I went to the Food & Wine Festival. Went to DTD one night. Got there around noon on Saturday, flew home on Friday afternoon.

I also like the fact that going solo I can do what I want, eat where I want, and drink where I want. Last solo trip I spent a lot of time at the Poly's Tambu Lounge drinking Hawaiian drinks:cool1::cool1:

How was DTD? Do you know when the construction is going to be completed? This is something I might avoid on my next trip. I do like the Xmas store there though and always buy at least one ornament out of there for my tree at home.

I did a solo trip last month. Mine was totally solo - didn't meet up with anyone. I arrived early on a Sunday and left late on Friday. That amount of time was fine with me. I found being solo I spent more time in the parks and overdid the walking. While being at the hotel was fine, there was no one there to offset the pull of the parks and make me rest longer ;).

If you do decide to go, make sure you spend some time alone before the trip. Look for ways to spend an entire day by yourself. Go to the zoo, museums, shopping etc. alone. You'll have a better idea of what works and what doesn't and can plan your trip around the negatives.

The only negative I found to going alone is there is no one to save your spot at the parade or QS table. If you need to go to the restroom or get a drink or ketchup you need to make friends with those around you first. :thumbsup2

With Park Hoppers:

MK 1 day
Epcot 1 Day
DS .5 days hopping to AK (or switched).

Then build from there if you like...

I normally go solo which I love. I go for 7-9 days. But I also do 2 days at Universal.

I do solo quite a bit and can usually go for 4 1/2 days.

That works fine for me - basically a day for every park plus the day I do AK, I'll go to DTD that evening and have another 1/2 day for Epcot or MK if I want.

My Sept. trip I eeked out an extra day to go to Universal Studios for Diagon Alley which I loved.

I'll probably just stay at one of the value resorts, which I love. Pop is my fave. So vibrant and fun. :)

Thanks! I'll post a thread there as well.

I think 7 days alone is a bit long for me. but i'll draft up a "wish list" list and take it from there.

We're regulars at Disney. But we only go once a year. Truthfully, the only parks i'd be interested in seeing would be MK & Epcot. I dont really care for AK. And HS is fun, but I dont mind passing on that one. So it really might only be MK, Epcot, and DTD. Thats why i figured 3 nights/4 days might work for me just fine.

I dream of a solo trip, happy to hear you are doing it!! My sis wanted a 40th birthday solo trip to Disney but sadly didn't make her 40th birthday :( So I say GO FOR IT and make it amazing :)

If I were to go, I would make sure I had at least one FULL day per park. I know dhs is debatable as a full day park right now, but I would get at least a 4 day hopper ticket so I could do what I wanted there and then hit up another park like MK to make sure I got to everything I wanted there.

This was the biggest surprise to me and the only problem with my first solo trip. It takes a little adjustment and planning to manage QS meals, and after being squashed by families and groups at MSEP, I've taken parades off my solo trip list. :lmao:

My first solo trip was four nights. Three nights would not be enough time in the World for me.

The only negative I found was eating at TS restaurants. There was only so much I could look at on my phone! I didn't even really mind sitting there in silence and enjoying the atmosphere, but I didn't want to appear lonely. The plus side of this is that someone did feel bad for me and paid for my entire (expensive ~$50) lunch one day! :cool1:

Thanks to advice from the DIS, I had a great solo meal at my favorite TS: Flying Fish. I ate at the bar and enjoyed the scenery along with excellent service. I would have sat at the "kitchen" counter and watched the chefs, but it was full that evening.

Eating at the bar might be an option for anyone not interested in sitting alone at a table.

Even though I insist on nightly TS meals on group trips, I prefer QS meals on solo trips. I like not being tied down to reservations and longer meals. Even so, I will always make time for Flying Fish! :goodvibes

I would do a week solo. I may be doing that next year. I just got back from a great trip. I wasn't solo but I went off on my own many times. I went with my sister and BIL and my sister is 5 1/2 months pregnant so she was very tired and her ankles were swollen a lot from all of the walking. We took breaks in the afternoons which helped.. but I like staying until the parks close and she just couldn't so they would go back to the resort early and I would stay by myself. I had the most fun when I was solo. Just doing things when I wanted to do them, however many times I wanted and walked around was awesome!

MVMCP on Sunday the 16th was probably my most favorite night of the trip. It wasn't a sold out party so the park felt empty compared to the rest of the week there. We split up around 9:30pm and I just had a blast. Went on Splash and BTMR 10 times, Space Mt 10 times and Peoplemover 4 times. Did Pirates and HM over and over. Walked right on everything with no waiting at all! I am really considering next November going solo. :santa:
