How long does it take from the time you start college to the time you actually start teaching? Is it 4 years? Longer? I'm under the impression that this is going to take longer than 4 years. My first love was psychology. The counselor said...forget it...you'll be in school at least 7 years for that! So I "settled" on teaching. How long does it really take? Thanks! :earseek:

I was wondering what my inspiration was for this post!!!

I started from scratch when I returned to college. It will take me 4 1/2 years to get my teaching certificate. I could have done it in 4 years, but I only took 4 classes a semester my first two years. I have a family, I work and I started a bit slower than traditional students. This is my last semester and as you know, I am student teaching now. Some students take classes at night as well. I have no idea how thay can actually do that!!!

Anyway, at my evaluation, I am going to find out when I can actually begin to submit applications. I am expecting to sub for a while and if I am lucky to land a job.......then I will jump for joy!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc I know a few people that got hired right out of college. I'll just have to see. I am graduating on May 10 and I know that I can legally sub beginning May 11.

Good luck!!!!

Had I not had to drop out because of health issues last semester, it would have taken me 4 years. Our school has required courses before you can student teach, which are only offered in the spring or fall, not each semester. The courses I dropped last fall I have to take this fall, then I can student teach, so it's taking me 5 years.

Congratulations, Karen! I hear you...single mom here. I'm taking 4 classes each semester. And it seems like a lot! I know one lady who takes 6 or 8 classes! There's no way I could do that. With 4 I always feel like I'm neglecting one of them. Right now I'm only taking 7 credits according to them. Bio lab meets just once a week for only 1 credit. And pre-algebra gives me a whopping zero credits! :( And I spend hours working on that class! Right now History and Music Apprec. are my 3 credit classes. Sometimes (like recently) I just feel overwhelmed and feel like nothing is sinking in. I hope things iimprove soon!

I'm sorry you have those health issues, Saffron! :( I hope you're up and running soon. Then get back on track with school. As my sister is always telling me...don't let anything come between you and that degree. :)
