from a college that you applied to? they cashed the check on 8/31...do you get a letter either way? Should I give them a call?

It can take a bit of time. About three years ago when I applied for my MBA one school took about a month (and they mentioned my application was moved ahead a bit because they knew I was coming a long way for a visit and they didn't want me to travel the distance if I was not accepted) and the other school I applied to took almost three months. I was accepted to both so don't take a long wait as a bad sign, it just depends on the school. :)

Depends on the school. Does it have rolling admission? If not there will be a date on the web site telling you when they start notifications. Did you apply for early decision? If not many schools are not till the first of the year. My DD's school was in Feb. and the Ivy's are later than that except for early admission. A lot of school have cut off application dates as late as Jan 1st and then and only then do they start evaluations.

Look on the site it will tell you. Rolling can be any time, early will be another date and regular will also have a set date for releasing admissions.

I agree with the others.

When I applied for my undergrad program, it was done online on in January. I had an acceptance later about six weeks later.

The grad school application was also done online, but I had an approval in three weeks, even after they'd told me it would take four to six.

If you've mailed it in, and it's a very large school, I'd give them at least four weeks and expect that it might take two months. Online applications seem to take a bit less time, but not much.

My on campus organization (that I chair) has an advisor who is the head of admissions. Right now, most of her time is spent on open houses and going to various college fairs to solicit students to enroll before the December 1st deadline for some of the programs. In seeing that, it may be possible that the school you're applying to is doing the same thing. This leaves less people on campus to review the applications that do come in.

Good luck! I know the wait seems to be so long, but the earliest you'd be in the classroom is next semester, right? You still have plenty of time. :)

I agree with everyone else. Every college is different. My son is starting to submit applications. He is getting confirmation emails at this point. It also seems like they looked at his interests, etc. because he's also getting more departmental mail.

Yep, depends on the school. Check the website for the one you applied to. Some don't notify until April 1!

That hasn't been long even even if the school has rolling admission. My alma mater does Early Action applications in December and the first regular ones January 31. There are a number of schools that are later than that.
