How long does it take for the Teva's to "mush"?

Hi,

I've heard a lot about the Teva Mush sandals, and am thinking of getting a pair for our August trip to WDW. What I'd like to know is, how long do you need to wear them to break them in? And.....do they breakdown quickly (in a bad way). I think I read a post or two saying that someone's Teva Mush sandals wore down quickly.

So, mush wearers, I'd love to hear your experience. Good? Comfy? And if you've had them and they didn't work for your trip to WDW I want to hear about that too.

Thanks!

I just bought my first pair yesterday for my July trip. So far I LOVE them- soooo comfy. My dad has a pair that he's have for 9 years and they're starting to show signs of aging. I've heard they're extremely durable.

No need to break them in. They are comfortable the very first time you put them on.

Yep, you should be ready to roll, right from the git go. I bought my DH a pair and he had never worn a flip flop in his life.....and no problems whatsoever.
I have many, many pair of teva mush ( you might call me a "mush" collector) and none of mine have gone from mush to mushy!

My ex loved his Teva Mush for WDW, and as far as I recall he never had to break them in, they were ready to go right away. I swear by Adidas Ayuna, but mush is a close second!

They are super comfy immediately and as you wear them they mold to your feet so they only get better. I will say that I have killed a couple of pairs of them to the point that the backside was completely flat and I have one pair that is missing part of the back where I wore them so thin. Then again I live in them all summer when I'm not at work and I'm really hard on shoes. I think it took me about 1 summer on 1 pair and 2 summers on the other pair. I just replaced them with 2 new pairs. I love my Teva Mush flip-flops!

Don't bother breaking them in, there's no need. I had a pair last summer that I wore almost exclusively, all day every day. They were toast by the end of the summer. I felt like I was walking directly on the street. I had to replace them this year. So, yeah, they will wear out, but not during your trip. One other thing - don't step on anything sharp! I have had rocks and sharp twigs embed themselves in the bottoms on my Mush's and everytime I took a step it was torture, until I did Teva-surgery to extract the offending sharps. I love these sandals, though. I'm wearing them every day again this year!

I LOVE my Teva Mush flip flops. I LIVE in them and wear them almost everyday.

However, I do NOT wear them for walking around the parks. They are not supportive enough for that IMO. At home, I'm just using them at a desk job or school, so I'm not walking anywhere near as much as I am at Disney.

I think they are most comfy when they're brand new, before they've been mushed in. I think how long it takes for them to mold depends on how heavy a person is and how often they wear them.

How, how, HOW can you all walk around the parks in these?! I'm reading up on here about proper foot attire and these are what I really want to buy. However, they look like a flip flop. Don't they blister you're feet pretty bad after a long day of walking through the parks?? I know if I were to wear flip flops through the park, I'd be blistered up in a couple of hours! If you all swear by them, I'm excited, cause they're a lot cheaper than most of the Teva's sandals I've been looking at! :yay:

I am a Teva Mush devotee - it's almost an obsession, actually.

The "mush" part of the sandal is comfortable immediately. In fact, I consider them the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

The only thing that I've ever had to break in has been the cloth "thong" part of the sandal. Depending on the style you get, the cloth can be a bit on the rough side until you break them in. I've probably had 4 or 5 pairs by now, and 2 of them have been rough, though with a week of wearing, that part gets comfortable too.

You would have more problem with them being too broken in. I have a pair that I wear as slippers that are 2 summers old - and they aren't really comfortable for walking long distances in anymore because the "mush" part has been pushed down too much.

Another mush lover here. They feel great almost immediately. I have one pair that are 3 years old. I have no trouble wearing them in the parks as long as I'm not actually hard walking or standing all day. Mostly that's due to an old leg/ankle injury though. They have never rubbed or blistered my feet at all.

I read the raves about these and ordered a pair for me and my DD to switch out with our other shoes. When they came in I thought the same thing. No way would these hold up to the park. I wore them around the week before we left, and even bought another pair of flip flops because I just didn't believe they'd make it. I was dead wrong. These are the bombdiggity, as my DD would say. Great arch support and not the first blister. The only draw back was that they did turn the bottom of my feet black, but that was easily washed off. I never even wore my Crocs flip flops- my normal go to shoes. Next trip... two pairs of Mush flip flops. Oh and my Adidas backups.. they were great too!

I wear the Teva Mush and Olawahu (crisscross straps) almost exclusively in the parks. They have decent arch support, and are very comfortable wet or dry. I wear mine every day, almost year round, and the only thing that happens is that eventually the tread wears down on the soles, which makes them slippery on some surfaces. That happens after a year of constant wear, and I am not a dainty soul (or sole)! I also have a pair of Bass flip flops with a kind of rippled sole which are super comfortable as well. I am 64, so I am not a kid either! :rotfl:

I have a pair that I've had for about 15 years. Seriously, it's true. I wear them around the house as my "slippers" all year long. I have others that I wear out and about and they've last for years too (although I do no do any theme parks in them, my back needs more support than any flip flop provides). DD7 just wore out a pair I bought her last summer, but she is very rough on shoes anyway and wears them anytime she's not in school. The bottom just peeled in half. It was time for a new pair for her anyway with those growing feet :)

I have never gotten a blister wearing my Teva's. I wear mine constantly and after several months I buy a new pair for park touring but keep the old ones to wear everywhere else. My daughter actually likes my castoffs to wear.

I always have problems with shoes at Disney. I've tried crocs, keens, all types of athletic shoes, etc.

The tevas mush flip flops are the only pair of shoes that I can wear day in and day out at Disney without a problem. No blisters, no rubbing, etc.

Last month when we were there I bought a pair of Disney Crocs (flip flop style) and had problems with those and had to resort back to my tevas.

I am here at Disney now and have worn my mushers every day except yesterday when I wore my sckeecher flip flops, which are great too, except it rained yesterday and they caused blisters on my feet. So it's back to the tevy's for me. By the way I did mot break mine in either.

Another Teva Mush lover!! I tried out a pair earlier this spring and started to wear them to and from work (I have a 9 block walk each way). They are SUPER comfy!! My only complaint is that after a while the fabric part of the flip flop will stretch. Mine stretched so much that I have now have to try to keep them on my feet when I walk, which caused the muscles on the tops of my feet to hurt after a while.

I tried out the Olawahu style, and to me these are MUCH better! Easier to keep on my feet and haven't stretched at all in the 4 weeks I've been wearing them. I plan on wearing them to WDW in August. :thumbsup2

Mine start to break in after about 2-3 weeks, but like was said before, breaking them in isn't really necessary. I usually replace mine every year in May. I wore them for a 14 hour day at Disneyland (you can see me wearing them in my sig pic) and didn't have any problems, they're very comfortable!
