How long does it take for a member to transfer points to your account?

I am trying to help my sister-in-law, her husband and their two girls (ages 1 and 5) plan a Disney trip for Jan '07. (No, they don't plan ahead! )
I suggested they rent DVC points, but I'm all pointed-out and don't have any points I can rent them.

I was thinking I could rent points from another member and have those points transfered to my account. That way I could make my SILs reservation, and I would control the reservation. BUT, what do I do first? Call and see if there is availability? Let's say there is, then I have to find someone to transfer me the points. Let's say they do, but that takes a few days. So then I call back, what if there is no availability at that point? Then I'm stuck with those points.

Or do I need to find someone WILLING to rent me/transfer me the points, then check for availability? How quickly could I get their points transferred to me? Or do I just need to get another member to make the ressie for me/SIL, and hope all goes well with the transaction?

What have you done?

Thanks!

Point transfers are just one phone call to MS, and are instantaneous. But you need to realize that point transfers are limited now to one per contract per year, so it could be harder to find someone to transfer the points.

I think I'd have them rent the points directly between them and a DVC owner who would make the reservation for them. You can hold their hand through the process and help guide them.

Not only would that way be cleaner, but if they are "mind changers" in addition to "poor planners", it would also protect you from the many pitfalls people here have reported when making reservations for people who don't understand how DVC works.

Good luck! :)
