How long does a sprained ankle take to heal???

Mine took longer than that to heal. Keep it iced and up right now, follow the doc's orders, and get a wheel chair or ecv if needed.

Thanks so much for the replies. We gave my wife the week off from all duties :) to rest her foot. She is now walking on it gingerly and the swelling has gone down. Still sore so we are taking it easy.
We still have 10 days so hopefully with daily ice and the ankle brace she will be good to go.
We did not go to the dr. so hopefully we won't need to.

worse case scenerio we will just rent a scooter. They are $150/ week which i thought was pretty good. Would be a pain on the busses though.

Thanks again.

by the way she rolled her ankle at the gym on one of those reebok half ball things for aerobics and running on the spot so be carefull if you ever use one.

I hurt mine about 6 weeks before I left on vaccation. I went to the doctor's about a week before my trip as it still hurt and even became swollen again some nights. I was given anti-infamitories with pain medication. I also purchased an ankle brace. I used some of the medication and saved some for the trip as I knew I would be doing more walking than normal at WDW.

I only had two days that my ankle was bothering me.

OP--if push comes to shove--a few days after a sprain, I have been known to walk around (I returned to work) with a tensor bandage on my ankle, wearing a sturdy sneaker over the bandage. It is quite the fashion statement, believe me! If the sprain isn't horrible, this is easier than going "cold turkey", and it does give added support to the ankle.

Haven't read all the replies...I sprained my ankle pretty badly about 2 weeks before a trip a couple of years ago. I walked all over the place (8 day trip); I was fine during the day, but my ankle was killing me by late afternoon every day. I pushed through it, and iced it every evening, and I made it though the trip. I used one of those air casts most days, IIRC.

Please let your doctor help you! He or she will be better equipped to advise you than helpful internet posters.

eh, it never hurts to ask how others are affected. everyone is different. and while doctors have their place, oftentimes they're only guessing too. It never hurts to research and ask around, as long as one remembers that everything on the net needs to be taken with a grain of salt...

As someone who has been to Dw with a lot of foot problems (I went last year 6 weeks after bunion surgery) let me offer some suggestions.

Make sure you have a good ankle brace. Pack anti imflammatory, you may want to ask the doctor for a stronger one than over the counter. Because these cause some people to have stomach problems also pack some Tums.

The best suggestion is to pack several gallon zip lock bags. Put one in your wife's purse. When you go back to the hotel stop at the ice machine to get ice on your way back to the room. It will save you and her some steps.

Good luck It can be done.
