How long did it take you to find the right contract?

We have finally narrowed down the type of contract we are looking for to cure our add-on-itis. At least for now.

However, now that we know just what we want, there are no contracts on the market that match. Curious if others were patient and eventually found the perfect contract or if you made compromises after so much time.

We know the resort, use year, and range of points we want but unsure of how long it could take for that perfect contract to appear.

Took a couple of days for the right one to show up for me! However, if you’re looking for a fully loaded BCV contract for less than $75 it might take while…

Are you using an aggregator site to search all available listings?

What is currently the limiting factor? Use year? Price? Number of points? For example could you offer less for the right use year that is listed? Or potentially break up contracts into two smaller contracts to meet your point needs

My attitude was not to let perfect get in the way of good enough.

With my second contract I may be pickier when I initial start making offers but there will be a point where if I did not get a deal worked out, I will be more flexible,

Looking for a 250-300 pt CCV contract with September use year. So hopefully not something that is too rare. Using the dvcrofr site to watch for any new listings.

Check out this aggregator too. I find it easy to use. I even see some that check your boxes.

ETA: Oops sorry about the link!

I should also add that we have been looking for a non-stripped contract. Part of the reason for wanting the new contract is because we are constantly borrowing from a future year as it is, don't want to start in the negative lol

We found our SSR one within a day. We were then looking for a second contract at AKL for a couple weeks, and got rejected on a few. Then one popped up at CCV that was perfect. I had really wanted CCV all along but didn’t expect to find it within budget.

I think timing really depends what you are looking for and how committed to that you are. A big resort like SSR is going to have a lot more options than BCV or CCV.

We approached our joining DVC the same way we handle our WDW vacations. We just ramble around until we bump into something doable. Twice we reached out to DVD. Tt took a few months and, since we bought direct, we paid a lot but we got what we wanted. :)

I would say that when (not if) it shows up you’ll have great odds at getting a good price on it. Larger contracts sell for less & sit longer. It’ll come up, most likely sooner than you think. It’s fun point hunting anyway 👍🏻 good luck 🍀

Our first one, it took us 2-3 weeks I think. 2nd one, it took nearly 2 months because it was a small contract and I was very adamant it has to be between 50-75 pts. It still wasn't perfect because I didn't get the UY I wanted to match the first one, but it was nearly impossible so I gave up and went with the closest thing I saw for the price I was willing to pay. 'Til this day, I still haven't seen exactly what I was looking for, so I'm happy I got the one I have.

It really depends on what resort/use year/size contract you’re looking for. CCV is a relatively small DVC resort pointwise, so it’s going to be tougher to find than most resorts (only BC has fewer points at WDW.) Since it’s your first contract you aren’t wedded to a specific use year, so that helps. Here’s a link showing the breakdown of use years at the various DVC resorts https://dvcnews.com/dvc-program/own...ty-of-disney-vacation-club-points-by-use-year.
My first resale contract was at AKV, a larger DVC resort & I found a contract right away. My second was at VGF - at the time the smallest of the WDW resorts pointwise - & it took about a year to find a contract of the size I wanted (I actually ended up w/ a larger contract because I’d been looking so long & it was the closest match I’d seen) in my use year.

We actually are direct members already, which is a big reason why we want to be specific on the use year to match. We have the time to be patient for the right contract to come along, but I was curious how others felt on how long they'd wait before making concessions. A full year is a lot of patience!

I felt the same - with my first contract I was pretty flexible across 3 home resorts and any UY generally. But with later contracts I was a lot more willing to wait for the resort and UY I wanted..

OP - are you direct members at CCV and so you want to match both resort and UY? If so, I would definitely wait and not compromise. I think it would be generally a big pain in the *** if you had the same resort and different UY that you wanted to use for a single trip. If that is the case I might be a little more flexible on price - i.e. think about how much you'd pay to rent points instead of borrowing and see if that feels "worth" it to pay that much more per point to have the points yourself. In other words, if you're looking for 300 points and you think you could get one (or are willing to pay) $130 per point (<-- made up number), are you willing to pay $142 per point ($20 rental - $8 in dues) for two 150-point contracts?

Or are you willing to bide your time and pay in the 140-145 range (using the $130 pp made up number) for a 100 point contract in your UY and then keep doing that until you get to your desired # points? three 100-pointers are going to be a little more valuable than a single 300-point contract and if you ever decide you don't need so many points you can let go of them a little at a time.

We are currently members at RIV. CCV was always our 2nd favorite and we'd love to get that 11 month window for a 2BR in December.

We very well may need to give more serious thought to the multiple smaller contracts idea though. You are definitely right on it being easy to sell off some of the points in the future should we want to.

You don't necessarily need to match UY then... We actually have Feb and Aug by design (different resorts). We tend to take late-summer trips with family, and we usually book a split stay with different points. then we can look at 7 mo if we want to switch to other resorts. If you really want a 2BR in December then you really could get a contract with any UY between June - December, and use those contracts separately. That might give you more options.

Or just buy 2-3 smaller contracts (in the same UY) and you can still take your time, finding the "right" contracts and lowballing. ;)

We are missing two Christmas trips (2022, 2023) and our points built up again. Funny how that works, now I have banked points again. (We use our Aug UY points for Christmas, and can mix/match for our Aug/Sept. trip. Spring breaks we preferentially use our Feb UY points, but we often go elsewhere in Feb-April anyway)

Not long for us but we focused more on resort/use year then contract size. We can always add-on but use year and resort was all that mattered for us so it gave us more options. Luckily we had a pretty popular use year so we got pretty close to the total we "thought" we needed but corrected that error in calculation before we even finished ROFR on it 🤣🤣🤣
