How long before you bought?

We bought based on studio points needs. Then we used development points (incentive at the time) and stayed in a 1BR at SSR. Since then, we are hooked on 1BR. Kids have their own space, etc. Now we're thinking about getting 2BR sometime and bringing friends or family. Points rental/transfer board, here I come!

You think you are planning on rental/transfer. I can see you are in denial or have mis-diagnosed the early symptoms. I will break it to you gently....
this is the first stage of addonitis. Welcome to the club!:lmao:

I have been going to Disney since April of 72. My parents brought us every other year till I was 18. Went for my 21st birthday ...then again for my honeymoon. Brought the kids in April 2003 and did the tour. My wife crunched the numbers and we passed. Went again in 2004 and still did not pull the trigger. Went in 2005 (rented points at BCV)while the kids were on the pirates cruise and decided to tour again. This time we bought 163 points.... at SSR.

5 years and 3 add-ons later we now own where we want to stay. 170 points at BCV.

My mistake was not buying where we want to stay.

Don't make the same mistake we did. Buy where you want to stay becuase DVC is growing and the 11 month window is becoming more and more important :)

I know, I know. Didn't want to say that word! I've even looked at the resale board! Already did a 50 point transfer so I could get a place for my mom for a couple nights as a Christmas present last year. They live a couple hours away from WDW.

Yes, our family is young, and we are "big" on family vacations. I would like to take at least 2 per year, with a few long weekends. That is why we are considering a purchase like this. I grew up going to Panama City Beach, yearly. I loved that we always went to the same place. But, we also went somewhere else too. We are hoping to do WDW once a year, and then a cruise, or a "different" vacation yearly.

Me too :lmao: Took the tour on a whim. Fell in love with SSR and bought on the spot. 150 points. Financed with DVC, paid off in less than 4 years. Just added on another 100 points at SSR.. Have never looked back except to wish I had bought in earlier:rotfl2:

HAHA!!
Glad it wasn't just me ... :thumbsup2
Yep, most our points (including ones added when addonitis hit) are paid by cash. Except for the first 150pts.
Agreed that I wish I had heard about it earlier.

First look time 1995,time first bought in 1997...........never never wait..... buy now. I missed out on free park tickets till the year 2000.Do the math , lots & lots of $$ lost .Since then , have bought 6 contracts , totaling 570 points, all OKW, all W/ same UY.

We are going to do our best to not wait, but, I want to pay for as much in cash as possible. It just seems crazy to finance this, when I know soonish, we will want to buy a new to us car. Otherwise, I probably would have already bought!

2 hours! :cool1: I have been going to Disney since I was a little girl and love it! So many fond memories with my family! My parents really helped with the "magic".:wizard: My husband, however had never been until his 20's. At first he shook his head and just didn't "get it"! Over the next several years we went with our 3 children. We went for a week in August 2003 and it was hot! I always asked my husband to stop at the kiosks and inquire. He always said, "I will not buy a timeshare. I don't believe in them." Well, I got him to stop and when the CM asked if we wanted a tour (at the time the tour was at BWV), my husband asked, "Is it air-conditioned?" Yes it was, so we went...2 hours later we bought. I financed our first 160 SSR, but paid it off in 2 years. We caught addonitis in 2008 and bought 160 points again at SSR, again added on through Disney and paid it off in a year.

Four things I would do different:

Buy sooner (even my husband agrees)

Buy where you want to stay. Love SSR, as my husband golfs, but love BCV and VWL better.

Buy resale ( I didn't know much about the resale market and sites like this. I was skeptical about the resale market due to its past (very past) history. Now I am comfortable with resale and when we catch the bug again, which I know I will I will buy resale.

Buys smaller contracts so I can give to each of my children later in life DS 15, DS 11, and DD 9

Enjoy

I went on a DVC tour in 1998. The Boardwalk was just completed. My children were all in their single digits age wise. The rooms were all so crisp and clean! We talked about it the rest of the trip but never bought. We still went to Disney at least once a year. I finally bought a resale at the Boardwalk in 2007 and never regretted it. We still go at least once a year sometimes more. On a funny note; Our DVC guide in 1998 was Bernard LeBaupin, when I bought the resale in 2007 I was assigned to Bernard LeBaupin

Once you make contact with a Disney Guide, they are assigned to you for life or until you request a change or they leave.

We were probably different than most. I had gone to Disney my entire life but wife had never been. We had a dd, now 5, and did a Disney Trip in March of '09 with the 4/3 deal. Even with the deal, it costs us upward of $4200 to stay at the Poly. The trip was worth every penny!

We went had a fantastic time; so much so that my wife asked when were we going back before we even left the park on the last day:rotfl: We saw all the signs for DVC, on the way out of the park, asked about how it worked, got some information left. Looked at it on the way home and decided based on how we would want to vacation at Disney it made sense for us. We got home and spent the entire week reading through the Dis and *********** to get info. Since we wanted BLT and didn't want to wait, we bought direct from disney (great deal back then as I got BLT for $94 or $96 a point and AKV for $92). We've made two trips already, third on the way and are hoping to use the points to go to Disneyland next June for my DD birthday...so...how long did it take for us to think about and buy...maybe a week:rotfl2:

It has already been the best investment in family time that I ever could have imagined. My wife, who is a workaholic, even turns off her blackberry for the entire week:banana: Now, fastforward to our yearly beach house rental on the OBX and imagine what she is like sitting on the beach with nothing to do...i'm surprised the blackberry still has keys left on it.

We took our first cursory look in about 1998 - we didn't look too deep because the initial cost scared us away. Then we kicked the tires again on the program again in the early 2000s - passed because we were GF monorail snobs. We finally met with a DVC rep and really scoured the ins and outs in 2007 or 2008 - but passed because were still monorail snobs and GCH snobs. So when VGC and BLT finally started selling, we had 2 resorts that met our snobbish habits and couldn't argue against the monetary value of DVC and bought in summer 2009.

I love it! :lmao:

Me - TEN YEARS! Started looking in 1995 - bought in 2005.

I don't regret one year of wait unlike most people. There's beauty in delayed gratification. Too bad many children these days will never know that. Okay, okay - I digress. We sat on the BW and dreamt. Stared at the coming soon sign at VWL and wished and wished. Strolled OKW and daydreamed. I didn't want to finance. Wanted to pay cash and it took that long.

It was a smart move for us. Unless you're really well off one never knows what life brings. I've had some tough years that I didn't see coming and I didn't have to even think of selling. Well that's a bit of a lie. But the thought just vanished owning outright. So no regrets.

It took us 5 years to buy. We never seriously considered it- of course, we never figured that we'd be going to Disney as often as we have. Every year we found ourselves saying that there was "no way we could do it"... only to change our minds shortly thereafter! After we decided to seriously look into it earlier this summer, we were signing a contract for 100 pts at SSR within 2 weeks.

We started looking into timesharing back in 2004 when we were in Sint Marteen. Finnally we didn`t buy. We then looked into different timeshares almost every year and did not find that it made financial sense UNTIL.... we had our third child. We then went to Disney in 2009, went on a tour and loved DIsney and bought 320 with the plans of eventually buying more. We are now looking at buying another 160 points and maybe eventually a little bit more.
