How long before we see our luggage with DME?

So our flight to MCO lands in Orlando about 9 am and we should be arriving at our WDW Hotel about 10:30 using DME. I know room check in isn't until 3pm, but sometimes rooms are ready early (last time we had our room by 1, but we had a later flight). We have our swim stuff in our carryon and are prepared to wait.
Anyone have a clue on average how long before our bags show up? This time I have a wine tasting event at the hotel at 3pm, and am wondering if I need to put my clothing (and the family's dinner clothing) in the carryon with the swimwear...

I would put what you need in the carrying. Disney says 3 hours after you check in. Most times, for us, it's been about 2, but in your case your room might not even be ready until after your wine tasting.

You should always, always put everything you'll need for the first 24 hours in your carry on.

If room check-in is officially at 3pm and your wine tasting is at 3pm ... hmmmm.... :rolleyes1

I say plan for the worst and hope for the best. Your room might be ready at noon, your family's luggage may be in your room by 1 pm, but your bag in particular have been sent to MIA by the airline by accident. (It's happened to me, no joke!) Best to have a quick change available should things not work out.

My two cents, Steve :confused3

So, my flight lands at 10:30am. If luggage doesn't come until three hours after check in, I wouldn't have luggage until 6pm, is that correct? If that is the case, I might be better off to get my luggage on my own and leave it with bell services. What would you do??

No, it's up to three hours after you check into your room. We always check in before noon and our rooms have always been ready. Most of the time the luggage has been in our room within an hour.

Great! Thanks for clearing that up! Could be a long day with no luggage!!

Why? What is the logic behind this statement.

Because airlines sometimes misdirect luggage.
While this is completely true, I have young kids that can't carry their own carry own so for the number in our party, bringing what we'd need for each person in a carryon wouldn't work unless I hire someone to carry either the carryon's or the kids.
I have friends (who we are meeting once we get to world) who have teens and all they take ARE carry-ons and they said it makes traveling much easier. But they are all much "lower maintenance" than I am. :rotfl2:

Depending on the time of year, many times rooms are ready when you get there. DVC villas are seldom ready, but regular resort rooms can be. So, figure on getting your bags, delivered to your room, up to 3 hrs after you check in at the resort.
If your flight arrives, ontime, at 9am, you should be at the resort by 10:30, possibly earlier. If your room is ready, then figure on getting the bags delivered by 1:30-2. If the room isn't ready? Well...there's no room to deliver the bags to yet, so you're going to have to wait.

Always pack anything you may have to have for that arrival day in a carryon. Unless children are under the age of 3, most can carry a backpack. My dd, now 19, always carried her own carry on bags..from the time she was 3 and started flying. You can easily fit a change of clothes in a carry on bag, with those swimsuits. Not to mention, if you get two carry on bags that are right at the allowable size, you can pack a huge amount in there.

I know that kids love to have almost everything they own in their 'bag' for the flight. So, the rule in our house has always been, you want it, you carry it! Dd learned very early what she really had to have vs what might be nice to have, just in case!!!:rotfl2:

I pack a rolling carry on with a couple outfits each, pajamas and swimsuits. Don't really need more then that. One other bag with medicines and maybe a third bag for stuff to do on the plane.

I'm not saying you should have everything you'll need for the entire trip in your carry on, but you should still have what you really need (not necessarily what you'd like to have) for the first 24 hours: a change of clothes, a tooth brush, and a bathing suit for each person, plus any medicines and maybe a hairbrush, a days worth of formula if you have a baby who needs it. It's really not that much - I can get enough for 3 people in one bag with plenty of room to spare, and even a young toddler can manage a backpack with a change of clothes, a bathing suit, and a toothbrush.

Trust me, you do not want to find yourself without something that you need and cannot easily replace - it makes for a very unpleasant beginning to a trip.

This! I can fit everything for me, DW, DS, and younger DD (older has her own bag) in one carry on. We're talking some sleep clothes, some underwear, toiletries, maybe some shorts, and maybe bathing suits.

I can live out of a carryon only for 3-4 days. No problem getting four people to live out of a carry on for a day.

I will say that if I have a trip that is less than 5 nights, I can go with carry on only. I usually do a checked bag for longer stays since I need more toiletries than I can fit in a carry on.

If I had something I needed and didn't want to put it in my carry on, I'd not use my Disney luggage tags and just go to baggage claim and get them myself. That way you get off the bus with it and don't have to wory about the timing :)

We always head to the parks right after we check in and drop off our carry on items. By the time we get back it's 4ish hours later, so I never know how long it takes to get our stuff.
