How long after you got off the pill....

I went off the pill and the next month got pregnant. Lost that baby at 9 weeks, ectopic pregnancy. Started trying again and it took 3 months to get pregnant, but I never went back on the pill. It varies from person to person, so don't get discouraged if it takes some time.

I took my last pill 8/30/2002 and got pregnant 9/6/2002. That was crazy!!!
But in 2002, ob/gyn said it would take 3 months or more to get knocked up after pill and bam! Literally, days!

This was us in 2002 as well. Just move the dates up two months (finished my pack the end of June 2002, got PG on July 4th, 2002, and a positive PG test 2 weeks later). We weren't even trying then, I was just giving my body a break so that we could start trying in 2003.

Off the pill??? Heck...DH of 3 months knocked me up ON the pill! No missed pills, no antibiotics, nothing.

And, this was us for baby #2. My doctor laughed at me. Baby #1 was 7 months old and we were PG on the pill. :rotfl2: After an initial period of denial, it turned out well.

I didn't go back on them after that. It took us a year of trying to get Baby #3. I told my doctor that it was a heck of a lot easier to get PG while ON birth control pills than off. :rotfl:

It is going to be different for everyone. Some of us just get pregnant easier. I was on the pill for 6 yrs, and off for one cycle when I got pregnant with ds11. Had never gone back on-got pregnant with dd9 when dh talked me into trying ONE time right as I was weaning my 18 month old. I was back on the pill for almost 9 years. At 35, I warned dh that it wouldn't be as easy this time. Well, one cycle later I was looking at a postive test! So it took me 6 wks both times, even after long periods of taking the pill. This time, I won't leave the hospital until they tie my tubes!

Went of the pill in Feb 1995 and dd was conceived in September, 2003 - thanks to many years of fertility treatment. Remember it is not the same for everyone. Never thought I would have to go through what I went through but it was so worth it in the end.

2 months each time. I was in my mid- late 20s and had been on the pill since age 19.

2 months - got off the pill, had one cycle and then preggo! I too expected it to take longer - happy but surprised.

With DS2 I was on the pill for 11 years and got pregnant the second month of going off the pill. I was 29 when I got pregnant.

with DD#1 I was on the pill and it was 6 months, with DD#2 I was on the patch and it was I am guessing around 2 weeks. I never had a period after taking it off and 2 weeks later I tested and it was positive. So not real sure if it happened after taking it off or if I was pregnant before.:confused3

I had been on the pill for 10 years. Several people told me that it would take a while for it to get out of my system. So we went off in July on our 3rd wedding anniversary. We figured we'd try to get pregnant this coming summer on our Disney cruise.

We'll be having a baby instead of going on the cruise! It only took 3 months on not even trying for us to get pregnant.

If you're not ready right now, don't go off.

I got pregnant within a month but miscarried then got pregnant 3 months after that.

I was on the pill for many years. I missed a pill two days in a row. Got Pregnant!!! (at 35 years old)!!!!! I've loved every minute of it!

thanks for all of your answers.. it's neat to see all the variety...

I went to see my family doctor this friday and told her I want to get pregnant next year... she said on average most people take about 3 months to get pregnant after being on the pill.. but that of course, it can vary greatly from person to person...

I'm so excited about trying to get pregnant and just this new phase in my life coming up next year!

thanks again everyone!

It's probably different now but when I went off the pill to have my children (23 & 20 now), the doctor wanted me off the pill for 3 months if possible. He told me that was how long it took it to be totally out of my system. I made it with my oldest but got pregnant within a month for my youngest. I was 22 with the first and 25 with the second. I started on the pill when I was 18.

I guess I am in the minority here...It took me over a year once I was off it.Now I was on it for 12 yrs before I decided to try to get pregnant. But I went off in January2002 and did not get pregnant till April 2003.

It was within the first month or two with my last 3, I wasn't on the pill before getting pregnant with number one. My doctor said to use alternate protection for the first month after getting off of the pill to avoid pregnancy not because it's a problem medically that is just what they like you to do to help them date the pregnancy.

I got off of the pill August 1996 and got pregnant February 2007, so it took 10 years and 7 months.

So, 10.7 years is how long it took.

 Wasn't she worth the wait? I know my DS was more than worth the 9 year wait.

It took me 18 months of really trying (timing, charting, temp, tests, etc.) with DD. I had been on the pill for 7 1/2 years before that. We had even done a count on DH and I had finished 3 rounds of clomid. I got pregnant the cycle after the last round of clomid and before our next step.

Went back on BC (patch then pill) for 3 years then off again and have been off for just over 3 years now. We haven't been doing all the stuff we did the first time though! :rotfl: We decided if it's meant to be it'll happen.

I don't think I'm the norm though.

My SIL got pregnant while on the pills (she missed a couple of days while camping) and also the first month after stopping. We are like night and day when it comes to getting pregnant!

Good Luck! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:
