Be sure that you really do need the root canal.
Back in August/September, I had a tooth that was bothering me really bad. I went in to my dentist, expecting them to pull it, however I didn't want it pulled because it was in an area that showed when I smiled. Anyway, at the same time, I was having trouble with my sinuses. I told the tech who took my x-rays that the pain could have been related to my sinuses because I had been stuffy and dealign with sinus pressure for a week and the tooth pain started a few days later.
So I get in the exam room where the assistant is going over my options for the tooth (pull or root canal). Now I do have issues when doing dental x-rays (my mouth is really small) and biting down on those small plastic things always hurt, coupled with the fact that this tooth was in pain.
So the dentist comes in and he and the assistant are looking realy really hard atthe x-rays. They look at the nerve and saw that it was close to something and go ahead and make the call that I need a root canal.
So first, they want me to take an antibiotic for a week and then come in and have it done. So she gives me the script, and I tell her that I hope that the antibiotic may also be the answer to my sinus pressure. She glances over at the x-rays and notices that yes, indeed, my sinuses are really cloudy. An area on the film that should have been clear was soooo clouded up with grey. So she calls the dentist back in.
They decide for me to take the antibiotic and then after I am done with that, come back in for another x-ray to look at the tooth.
So I was on an antibiotic for 10 days, and after day 1, I can eat again, and since then.....no pain at all.
I went back in for my x-ray and nothing could be found that warranted the root canal. So glad I was given that script.
And this does happen to me from time to time where sinus pressure will cause pain in some of my teeth.
