So, Galaxy's Edge was the first thing that's gotten my husband to agree to a Disney trip. We originally had a cruise booked for December of 2019, but he even suggested that we switch to Disney. So, I decided to roll the dice and booked us for 12/1-7/19. I know I'm going to have a good time regardless, but GE (and DiveQuest) are the real draws for him.

So, we're booked at POFQ. Thinking back on it, the room rates seemed about what they should have been for that time of year, and I can't help but think if GE was going to open, they'd be higher. I know we don't have anything close to an official date, but are there any rumors? Construction seems to be going well, at least from what I've seen around the blogs.

Just a reminder, they can change room rates before you check in even if you have a reservation. The only way to guarantee it doesnt change is to pay in full up front. I learned this the hard way.

Also, I personally would want to stay somewhere in walking distance to DHS if I were planning to do GE at the very start. Parking and even traffic could be nuts.

Not if you book after the rates are published and not if you do not make any changes to the reservation
I never pay in full as we only book room only. As long as I don't change the reservation the rate has never changed, even when rates have otherwise increased.

Disney is amazing at keeping rumors at a minimum. Speculation not so much but they keep a tight lid on real information and folks who know really don't talk. Penalties for breaking their agreements must be severe.
Just look at the upcoming ticket price changes, no one is talking. In this day and age you'd really expect leaks.

Not even Disney should get away with this greed

Any of the Deluxe resorts were well out of our price range, and he said no to the Values. Caribbean Beach was just a bit too overwhelming. POFQ seemed like the best fit. We've stayed on property at Universal Orlando before, and he really liked CityWalk, so I think being close to DS is a good thing.

Assuming the stars (so to speak) align, my guess is we'll end up blocking out a day that's only for GE, and then spend the rest of the time doing something that's not theme park based.

Although finding out our price could still increase chills me to the bone.

Your price will not change of you don't alter the reservation
Though there will be promos out eventually so by that note they should go down if you can use a promo

I'm not sure there will be any discounts that coincide with SW:GE opening. Unless they jack up the prices so high they offer discounts to make seem like a deal...

I have 16 trips to the World under my belt and have NEVER had the price of a confirmed reservation, paid in full or not, go up nor have I ever heard of it in my 13 years on these boards.

Prices are out for 2019 resorts. They've had promos for other openings. Basically the only days without a promo are the days between Christmas and New Years. I'm not saying I'm right but I would be shocked if there is no promo on any room the entire time

The key being confirmed. If you book prior to rates being published they will change. But not if you book after. And rates are published for 2019. So they won't change unless you alter your reservation

Well I can assure you it happened to me on our very first trip. I booked us at the Poly for our first three nights and Shades of Green the rest because of the cost. Evidently whoever posted the rates didn’t account for Presidents Day weekend, and when I checked in, my rate had doubled. You can imagine that particular sticker shock is burned very clearly into my memory. Obviously one night was paid, but they would not adjust the other two nights. We got a couple of no strings passes (or something like that—they had stars on them, not Pinocchio) for our trouble but not a penny off. It was pay it or leave at that point—not a very magical first ever onsite stay. Believe it or not, but it happened to me. It’s never happened again, but I’ve paid several trips in full up front since, especially if I’m using Visa Rewards, just in case.

Free dining is the bounceback offer for next year from Dec. 6-24 2019. It gives me hope that other discounts will be offered.

You can get fd between Christmas and New Years as long as you check in by the 24th. It may not be a great deal if you're an AP holder, but it can be a great deal for many. We'll see if the same promotion opens up to the general public next spring.

Packages (all of them, not just "free" dining) do run until the 24 and if you buy a package you get the price for the entire stay not just the day you check in.

I'm not really sure what you're saying. I'm just saying if you check in on the 24th (or even sooner) you can stay for up to two weeks with free dining. That will give you the promotion over Christmas and New Years. It's the only discount I know of over that week booking through Disney.

I'm saying that I agree with you and that all packages have that feature. As long as you check in on the last day of the package promo date range you get the promo price for the entire stay. Not just Christmas week but anytime and any package.

Hijacking with a related question! I am just now within the 499 days to make a room only reservation for Feb 2020 if I want......when could I expect the rates to be released so I would know the confirmed price of the reservation?? ( I would be keeping an eye out for promotions down the road, of course. )
