How is US Airways?

Has anyone ever flown with them before? Do they have a habit of changing their schedules around a lot?

In this day and age I would expect to see changes with all the airlines but Southwest.

If you don't mind the lack of customer service US Airways is ok. They do charge extra for luggage, drinks and snacks. If you want certain seats there is a charge for that as well.

While I have had less than pleasant travel experiences on nearly every airline including US Air...I always recall the US Air diddy..." If you have time to spare...fly US Air"

US Air lost my bag on a trip to Vegas last year from Boston...since the wife and I rented a car, we made a couple of stops in Vegas before heading off to our hotel...sans bag.

As I pulled into the parking lot at the Mirage, I got a call from US AIR saying my bag had arrived and was being sent over via taxi. As we finished checking in at the front desk, the bellman handed me my bag...sometimes they do get it right.

Well, it's not called "USlessAir" for nothing LOL! Amoung Frequent flyers it has a horrid reputation, but the truth is that your flight will probably be just fine. Most of them are.

USAir has some very bad labor relations in an industry not known for good relations between managment and labor. As a result, they seem to have some "surlier" then usual employees. (I fail to understand how being rude to customers will "save" your job, but there you have it.... I once had a station manager tell me that's why his employees were cursing out the passengers "they are worried about thier job" My response "Driving us to another airline helps???")

Ah Useless Airways, I've flown them for business and for pleasure. While they don't change their schedule a lot, more often than not they have cancelled flights on me at the last minute, lost my luggage three times, and have some of the worst gate agents I've run into.

You should be fine but be sure to pack your patience and check in at first opportunity.

I haven't flown USAir in a few years due to pricing but when I've flown in the past everything was fine. One trip we boarded in Orlando for the trip home when a storm began. We sat on the plane waiting for the storm to pass. DD was young and the storm frightened her. The flight attendant saw the tears and took her up to the cockpit. She met the pilot and they both tried to reassure her.

I'm flying them again next month. Hopefully everything will go smoothly as it has in the past.

Be aware that they charge for each checked bag ($15 for first, $25 for second, each way) effective 7/9. They will also be charging for drinks on the plane $2 each. $2 for curbside check.

I don't know about changing schedules but they do believe in delaying your flight 6 hrs before giving you the chance to get a different flight. Then they give you 5 bucks each in coupons for airport food. Then having the nearest flight 80 miles from your destination and making you take a cab to your destination. Then offer you $250 off your next flight with US Air. THis is what they did to us going to Legoland California last year.
We'll NEVER fly them again.

Sorry for the vent! :duck:
:3dglasses

Actually, that was Northwest. Oh, no, it was United. Wait, wait, Delta did that to me. Oh! And Continental once too.

Get the point? :goodvibes

They're all the same. And give it a year or three, and Southwest will be the same too. There is nothing magic about one airline over another.

I used to fly usair religously for business because they were the most convenient from my airport. I used my last bit of frequent flyer miles last week and I am done flying with them. They are the worst I have ever flown with. I can't count how many times my luggage was lost.

Here is the best part. I took a puddle jumper once and I had to leave my carryon bag at the bottom of the steps to the plane so it could be put under. I left it wit the other 20 bags down there and when I got to my destination, they lost it. How the hell do you lose a carryon bag that is sitting next to the plane with all the others. I got it back, but it took a week. They have also lost my luggage for a total of 2 weeks.

As I said in another post, Useless Air's new slogan should be "15 more minutes"

I try to avoid US-scareways at all costs. Of the 6 flights I've had with them I don't recall ever leaving on time. Their customer service is pretty bad, too.

USAir is the only airline I've flown. (At least during my adult years - don't know what I flew as a kid to Disney.) Here in southeast PA, they are one of the major carriers.

Knock on wood, it's been okay. I used to take them back and forth between Allentown and Boston when I was in grad school. Then we've used them to go to Disney, and I used them to go to Manchester, England. We'll be flying USAir in less than two weeks to go back to Disney, then I'll be using them in August to go to England again.

I think ALL airlines have problems. Truly. I don't see USAir being any different than all the others. And since we booked our tickets all the way back in December, we won't be paying the checked baggage fee on our upcoming trip.

(I'm knocking on wood some more now, to try and prevent jinxing myself!)

I had a problem with the website, and my conformation had the correct info, I called about the issue, and before I got off the phone the woman had me in tears ( hysterical), I work for a huge company and I flew US Air exclusivly for business prior to this, and have not and will not ever fly them again after it, I also called American Express travel to complain and sent a memo to my HR department, thankfully, because most of our business is in the US and since the cost of flying is so high we have been restricted to southwest with our travel allowances, so it is no longer a problem, but I just assume pay out of pocket before I will fly Us air again...

I to had luggage issues but thankfully it was always when I got home once my luggage missed the plane after I had been delayed for 7 hours :rotfl2: , but I had always had good luck with upgrades to first class and other perks for FF.

Just out of curiousity... are there any airlines out there that have still have a good reputation for customer service?

I second about Southwest and customer service! :thumbsup2

If what Southwest delivers happens to be what you actually want.

Have they started offering seat assignments yet?

no and I don't think they ever will. Their system works now and I don't see them changing it

Well, I know they were thinking about it. A lot of us won't consider going to a lottery system for seats, so their system doesn't work for us.
