How is TSMM these days?

I mean the ride itself - not wait times. I read a report yesterday that it shut down twice during one visitor's ride, and they were stuck for about 30 minutes. Just wondering if that is a more common occurrence lately with the reduction in tracks open.

We will be at HS Mar.10. My kids' top priority is to do Jedi Training, with TSMM being a close second.

Here was my original plan for the day:
8:00 Arrival with 9:00AM open
8:45-9:00 Sign up for Jedi Training (try for 10:10 slot)
9:05-9:30 Ride TSMM with FP+ (9:10-10:10)
9:40 Arrive at JT staging area (required 30 minutes prior to showtime)
10:10-10:30 Jedi Training
10:30-10:55 Ride Star Tours standby
10:55-11:15 Ride Star Tours again with FP+ (10:10-11:10)
11:15-11:45 Lunch at Backlot Express
Then we split to watch shows (boys to Indiana Jones, girls to Frozen Sing-Along)
Afternoon break, return early evening for Star Wars Launch Bay and Galactic Spectacular.

If TSMM is operating as usual this plan should work, since I anticipate being able to arrive right at the beginning of our FP+ window. But if there are any delays, we might not make it back in time to the Jedi Training staging area, and that is not an option because this is our only day at HS. Not sure it's worth risking.

SOOO... my alternative options would be:
1. Try to get the 9:40AM Jedi Training, do it first thing (should be done around 10:00), then hurry over to TSMM as soon as we are done to catch the tail end of our FP+ window, then come straight back to ride Star Tours. (Incidentally, we find HS pretty "small" so backtracking isn't a big deal to us.)
OR
2. Sign up for the 11:10AM Jedi Training (and hope the weather cooperates). Ride TSMM first thing, maybe fit in Muppet Vision 3D, then do Star Tours before our Jedi Training, which would still be done early enough to not interfere with our other shows... but then we would have to eat a later lunch.

What would you do?

You do have until 10:25 to use your TSMM FP.

I’d stay with the 9:40a JTA. It runs as scheduled and will be finished at 10:00a.

I like Option 2...sounds a little more relaxing with more options.

Just as aside...your original plan had you riding Star Tours standby right after Jedi Training. I can tell you from experience that the line SWELLS after each Jedi Training, so riding standby then is a much longer wait then any other time of the day. By the time you reconnect with your little Jedi and get into the line, it can easily be a 30-40 min wait.

I've heard that can be the case. We've been to HS once before... the last time (Nov. 2016) we were in the second group of the day for Jedi Training, and the waits for Star Tours in the morning were still low enough that my family rode twice in standby before using their FP+ for a third ride, right around the same time as what I have planned. So I guess we'll see. I really prefer to get Jedi Training out of the way (just in case the weather turns and our show gets cancelled - my kids would be crushed). But they would also be disappointed if we missed our TSMM FP+. With the grace period, I think we can make it with that plan. Thanks for your input!

I would do a version of option 2, but go to Star Tours standby after Jedi sign up, then go to your TSMM FP and back to Star Tours with your FP. It wouldn't make your lunch too late

I like option 1. I don’t like using a FP+ first thing (you could RD it and then ride again with FP+ when there’s a long line) I also personally wouldn’t do Muppet Vision 3D so early either. That line is always very short and you should be using the morning to go in short lines that won’t always be short. But in option 1, it works great because the line for TSMM will definitely be long by then and you’ll be done earlier this way.

This is unrelated to the Jedi training but are you doing a 3rd FP+? You’ll need to if you want later FP+ in the day. Figuring in the Hollywood Studios FP+ tiers, you could choose TOT or any shows except for Beauty and the Beast and Fantasmic (by the way, if you are planning on doing TOT, get FP+ for that- generally FP+ for shows barely saves you any time)

If there are operational problems such that TSM is down you will be issued an anytime FP that will allow you to ride it anytime later that day. So I think your original plan is fine.

We actually have FP+ for the two shows (Indy & Frozen). I know we don't need them, but my kids won't ride ToT or RnRC, so we need to "use them up" so that we can try (probably in vain) to get another FP+ for TSMM for the evening when we come back.

My concern with the original plan was more that if we got "stuck" on TSMM, we wouldn't make it back 30 minutes before our Jedi Training and they might give our spot away to someone else. I don't know how strict they are on the late/no-show policy, but I don't really want to test it.
