How are things going with all the construction on the 402 at Sarnia? Is it crazy bad?

Thx
:wizard:

Honestly you never know. It doesn't seem to be too bad at present. Yesterday both lanes were open because they took down the Christina street overpass on the weekend. However, yesterday coming in to Canada was busy- which generally Mondays are quiet. Go figure!

I'm going today so I'll try to let you know what it's like. I'm thinking I'm going to follow the advice of the DISers here and get off at Modeland to Michigan to Front.

We cross quite often to go to Port Huron and it is always different. The US Customs there asks more questions and takes way longer than any other one we've gone thru. The shortest we have EVER been in line waiting is a minimum 20 mins. Usually its a good half hour... The longest, an hour and 45 mins... Nearly ran out of gas while waiting

There really haven't been any line ups due to the construction since the intial phase a few weeks ago. Traffic seems to be moving along fine now. You can always check the web cams here:

Front St. is the closest to the bridge.

It is always lined up at the US border, as photofreak mentioned, very, very seldom is the wait less than 20-30 minutes, even if there are only a few cars - don't know if they purposely make people wait that long or what :confused3 but it is always the same!!!!

Just went Tuesday, crossed just after 4pm. Came back Wednesday, crossed about 1pm. The traffic on the highway was very light. On the way there I waited only about 2 minutes @ customs  She was very fast questioning us but as soon as I said why we were crossing (Miley concert)
she was really nice . On the way back, waited about 15 minutes to get to customs, guy there was equally easy. Again, said we went to Miley and he laughed and said he'd had lots of cars back that day from Miley.

On the way there, I did the Modeland Road detour, just to be safe & for curiosity's sake, and it was easy to follow if you see it backed up.

I'll tell you where there are traffic/construction issues-Strathroy. If you have to go through Strathroy allow extra time because, en route to Sarnia, it was down to one lane for a significant amount of time. On the east-bound side, it was not nearly as long as the west-bound side.

It's fine....I cross there weekly to bi-weekly...have for years...you won't have any problems....things are moving quickly!

No problems??? Really? We travel to the US all the time, for extended visits and just day trips. In our expereince it is hit or miss. I have sailed over and been stuck for hours. We fly out of Detroit to Orlando every time and I would never drive from home- to- airport the same day (with an early flight) b/c you cannot predict how the traffic will be. We look at the website for current bridge wait times and it can say 20min. I live 40 minutes from the bridge and we have waited not 20 minutes but an hour and a half.

We also notice traffic at the strangest of time. Mid Sunday afternoon going in to MI will be crazy backed up one time and completely quiet. We cannot get the gist of it !!!!

There is a reason they have port - a- potties along the highway coming up to the bridge !
