How is this considered safe?

just because you feel unsafe does not mean things are unsafe. i trust that the well paid designers of the ride took into account the differences in sizes of people and decided that it was safe the way it was. i would think that universal has thought long and hard about safety issues. eventually, you just have to trust the experts, and realize maybe they do know what they are doing. hope this answer was less stupid and moronic for you.

Yep, seeing as both Spiderman and JPRA have been open for nearly a decade, and without any reports of serious injuries that I'm aware of, I would say they are safe.

Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls HAD some injuries, and they've redesigned that ride a few times to make sure it's completely safe, even adding some funky lapbars to it.

The short answer is that, on many rides, the bars are just there to keep people from climbing out and are not actually safety restraints. If safety restraints are necessary, they are usualy placed on the ride when it is built or added. (such as on MIB and Tower of Terror.) I remember when both MIB and Tower of Terror had a bar that went across. Both rides later added safety restraints. I am confident that Spiderman, Cat in the Hat, Simpsons, Jurassic Park River Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Teacups, etc. would add individual lapbars if restraints were needed for safety.

Since this discussion has taken a rather bad turn, I am closing it.
