Pocahontas is my DS's favorite. Is the show cute or lame? Is John Smith or Meeko in it? Is the only place to "see" John Smith at Fantasmic show?

Its right next door to "Festival of the Lion King."

The FoLK is so SPECTACULAR that we (DW and I) just don't do Pocahontas much.

Its not at all BAD, its just a very minor show.

But hey, if you like pleasant little shows with a few cute little animals in cute little outdoor "theaters", this is one of them.

No John Smith or other characters from the movie, its a wildlife show.

See the Link for more info.

I didn't mind it at all, but once every few years for Pocahontas is about right for us.

(We do FoLK several times each trip, as many times in a year as we can go to WDW.)

We saw the show 3 yrs. ago and it was nice. They let the children sit up front on small benches. John Smith was not in it, but I think there was a real racoon. There were other live animals doing tricks, too. We also saw an animal training show about a half hour before the Pochantos show. I think they may present that only once a day.

How old is your DS? Younger kids really like it. My 10 yr. old DS complained when we went to see it again this year. (We had to go because my 3 yr old DS also loves Pocahontas!) The show is cute. It's not spectacular by any means! You've got Pocahontas singing a couple of songs and some really cute animals that pop out on stage and run across for a few moments. That's it. If you've never seen it, at least catch it once! :flower:

Against my better judgement, I braved the sea of bodies and strollers known as CAMP MINNIE-MICKEY, a place usually mobbed with children and rude parents ready to sythe you off at the ankles with a stroller the size of a small SUV for a skunk. That's right, a skunk. I heard that they use live animals, including a skunk in the Pocohontas show, so heedless of the less-than-glowing reports from various sources I went. I should have listened.

The show was really lame. They had a puppet-type little tree that I really wished the clear cutters would have gotten. The actress playing Pocohontas was very good but the script was non-existant. Most of the time she was just sweeping around a very small stage looking concerned.

I personally give it a C for the good actress and the skunk. Everyone else I've met gives it a D and was glad to be out of there and on the way to food. The majority of teens will be bored out of their minds.

Kid Grade (G): Suitable for all ages but is perfect for very small children. They get to sit right up front and get a good look at the small live critters that populate this inane, uber-PC show.

:rotfl2: You nailed it.

OK, this show ain't much for adults- but if you have little ones I'm betting they'd like it and that is who the target audience is. It's pretty simple and doesn't overload the senses of your little ones like Festival of the Lion King. (Call me weird, but I thought the animals darting across the log was hilarious and cute- particularly the rats!) Just don't expect anything over the top and you'll be fine!

I couldnt agree more about taking out the puppet tree. First he looks extremely anemic and second he is extremely annoying. I kept leaning over to my son and asking him if he had a spare chainsaw. :)

All kidding aside. The show is fine for toddlers but lame for everyone else.

JMHO

I'm the OP. My triplets are 5, a bit young for their age,and HUGE Pocahontas fans. It sounds like it is a lame show, but describing them, do you think it worth doing? Thanks to all for the info.

Hi triplefigs!

We just happened upon the Pocahontas show as it was a walk on, and we were told to go see it since we had to kill 30 minutes until the 11:40 FOTLK show. Gotta love the off season! (everything everywhere we went was no line!)

Anyway, I think the triplets will like it. They will get to sit up front and if they love Pocahontas, they will especially like it. Just don't miss the FOTLK! :cheer2: :goodvibes

We won't! We're doing an ADR at 'Ohana that am, and then going to AK for the rest of the day. Want to do FOTLK, Pocahontas, Bone Dig Site, Triceratops, the safari, the parade. Anything else big? The kids won't want to do Kali River Rapids (too much for them).

They will love the Christmas themed parade in the AK. :goodvibes

You are going my absolute favorite time of year. :cheer2:

Steffy,

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this trip. I want it to hurry up and then last a lifetime! Not too much too ask for! :rotfl:

the Pocahontas show was very, very disappointing. The animals didn't really do anything except run across a log in the background. She just ran from corner to corner of the stage, looking outward and singing colors of the wind. It is one of the worst shows in all of WDW IMHO.

If all she does is stand there and sing that song once, my DS will be the happiest boy on the planet. He is totally in LOVE with Pocahontas. For him to see her sing will likely be the highlight of his trip. Did I mention that he LOVES her and sings the songs from the movie all day long??? DH and I will suffer through it just to see him that happy. Guess he's their perfect target audience!

I have to say that I absolutely LOVE this show. Live singing.. a cute message about how we are responsible for looking after the planet.. live animals - grandmother willow and twig...
plus during colours of the wind she throws multicoloured leaves into the air..

Yes, its low key.. but its not a terrible show! I love the song too.. and love Pocohontas..
My DS (5) isnt totally in love with it, but he will go.. my DH says he would rather remove his brain with a blunt spoon (his words exactly!) than watch it again..
bUT.. i am a softy.. and I love it. Actually it makes me cry!!

I love all the shows at WDW though. i am a singer myself, so anything with live singing in it, really does it for me!

We love this show too. The children get to sit it the front benches so it's easy for them to see. Pocohantus is one of our favorites and this show is a must-see for our family. Your 5 year olds will absolutely love this! :)

While you're at AK, make sure you stick around for the parade. It is our favorite WDW parade. We never miss it!! And, if I remember correctly, they have a different parade in December.

If you happen to be at the front of the line your children may get asked to help open the show. DD and her friend did this and got magical moment certificates.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try to go early. DS would have a fit.

triplefig---It sounds like you definitely need to see Pocahontas show. It's a pretty short show, won't take up much of your time. If your kids are such huge fans, you need to go. We saw it a few years ago with our DD's. It is a little lame for grown ups so we probably will not go to see it on our next trip in Nov./Dec.

Have a great trip---and Roll Tide !! :)
