How is the food (really) at Hoop De Doo?

Now, be honest. Is this one of those 2 credit Disney dining experiences where you pay for the experience much more than the food? Like CRT, for example, where you go in knowing you're paying a premium to eat in the castle and see the Princesses. Is HDDR like that, or is the food really worth the 2 TS credits?

The last time we did this was in December. I will say the food was not good. It was better the year before. The ribs were nasty and the chicken dry, just not good. The show is great. Or at least my family loves it. The kids always ask to go back.

We just dined there on 7/6 and the food was alright-nothing great just something I was capable of doing on my own!---I will say though there was alot of it! They had no problem dropping off another bucket at our table when we had demolished the first one!
I wouldn't do HDD again though---It was expensive and the food just alright and the kids just didn't seem to like the show and were more entertained by going to the bathroom but they did enjoy beating on the washboard when they brought that out!

The food was edible, but not great. It reminded me of every WDW meal I've ever had: nothing special.

But the show was very fun, and we'll do it again in a couple of years. I don't think it's worth 2 credits.

Reading this makes me feel somewhat better. We are going in August and my cousins family is meeting us for 5 days. They have done the HDDR about 5 years ago and I remember them saying the food was not good (this is the reason we never did this show). Now, they are saying it is a must-do for this trip since the show is so much fun. My husband REFUSES to go. He says that there is no way he is paying this much or using 2 credits for food that he will not eat. I was upset at first, but let it go since there are too many other things to worry about. We will have dinner with them the next 3 nights anyway.

I cannot believe this thread!! I totally agree. The food just is not that good. Now I loved the show but the rest of the family did not. I think a person should see this at least once.

The food is OK!!!! It is like any Disney buffet food. I think it is worth 2 credits because it is just so much fun. WE have a great time every time we go!! :thumbsup2

I think the food is not great, but the show is good. I could never understand why Disney did not improve the food.....but I think people just go for the show at least once....what I mean is the show is always full with new people coming to WDW for the first time so they have never really suffered with people not coming, there will always be new people to see the show who have not experienced the food...

I have never gone back and would be curious to know if people have gone more than once to this show...it certainly cannot be the food that brings them back.

We went in 2004, like everyone else, the food was OK...nothing special.

We are going back again this year...WHY? Because DH & my kids LOVE that type of humor! The cornier the better, in fact HDDR was the ONLY place they INSISTED on doing.

We go for the entertainment, not the food!

Most of the food is NOT GOOD. The exception being the ribs. They were yummy. The show wasn't that good either. I think I only truly laughed once. The other times I fake laughed to try to get the kids into the show. Even DS7 didn't really like it. He begged me not to ever make him go back again! He doesn't have to worry about that....

I posted a review of our visit on the Dining Reviews Page. (Hoop-Dee-Dooped).

Last year was the first time we went to HDDR and we LOVED IT!! The humor was corny, but you have to go in there knowing it. Let yourself get into "character" and just love it. DH insisted that we go again this year. That was one of his MUST HAVES, i think it's cuz he looks like 6-bits :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is any of the food at any buffet at WDW really anything special. I happen to like fried chicken and ribs so for me the food at the HDDMV is fine. My DW on the other hand doesn't care for the food but will go because we all like the show. I think that most of the food at WDW is just ok unless you go to one of the nicer places to eat. For a change from what we call Disney food we are going to LTT. We went there last year for the first time and found it a nice change. We have two children and look for fun and easy and because of that I don't expect to get a meal that will last a life time of me talking about.

Good, not great. Very BBQ (lots of calories) but the desert is quite good.

I have gone before and we are going again. Like the others have said the food is ok, some like some things better than others and I am sure there are good days and bad days. The thing I wanted to point out is this is a dinner show for two credits, not 'just' a meal. I know people say it is expensive but when you think about a meal and a show it really isn't unreasonable and not unreasonable to expect to use two credits on.

I thought that food was fine, we went a few years ago I cannot remember exactly when, of course after a couple of mason jar of the complimentary white wine, the food was GREAT. :cool1: could not get enough of the chicken or ribs.
My kids enjoyed all of it, including the show.

We've gone once on every trip. The show and food has never changed in 13 years. Actually, some of it has. They used to give you a corn and green pepper medley instead of the corn on the cob. I like the corn on the cob so much more. I don't eat meat on the bone so I don't eat the chicken or ribs and I don't like strawberry shortcake, but the bread and salad is pretty good. :teeth: I don't care to go anymore but we keep bringing new people on almost every trip that want to try it out. But I swear this is the last time! ;)

We were there for Christmas Eve. We thought the chicken was crispy and delicious and the dessert yummy. It is nothing fancy but we enjoyed it. The price is definitely for the show, but we enjoyed the food (guess we are not picky!)

We've been there 6 times over the years and the food used to be much better, IMHO, although never outrageously great food. The whole experience is a lot of fun and we've always had a wonderful time. I would not attend thinking that it would be a gastronomic highlight, but the food is definitely not truly awful.

Went in Feb 05. I thought the food was great. Chicken, ribs just fine. Salad was great. I had no problems at all with anything on my table.
