I am planning on a cruise either in Nov. or the end of August and I was wondering if August is still horrible huricane weather? The plus of August would be my children would not miss ANY school. They are young so I am not completely against it, but I would like to avoid it. Thanks for any help.

I have cruised the Caribbean and the Bahamas in both time periods. The weather and water temperatures are warmer in August than Nov, however not by much. It's more noticeable for the Bahamas than the Caribbean.

August is great; however, there is a real risk of hurricane. The hurricane season runs from June thru Oct. The good part of a cruise vacation is the ship can move to avoid the worst (or any) of the storm effects. The bad part is you may miss the best destination(s), like Castaway Cay.

In Nov, you won't need to worry about hurricane, and you can get a cheaper rate if you don't coincide the trip with Thanksgiving.

Thanks MFan~The only reason I was even considering August was...no school. We went in Oct. last year and it was great, a little choppy (the water) but what a blast. Thanks for your reply.

We just sailed on 8/17. Needless to say, there were no tropical storms, hurricanes, etc. The seas were extremely calm. I had Bonine, but like many people have prevously stated, I took the first one the morning of boarding and never even thought to take another one the entire trip.

I do have to say that it was hotter than Hades at all our ports and the 4 days at WDW afterwards.

Last time we took at cruise was 10 years ago on Premier. We disembarked the morning before Hurricane Andrew hit Florida. Although it was considerably windy the night before we returned to Port Canaveral, the captain had no problem finding us relatively calm seas.

If during hurricane season is the best time for you to travel, I would not hesitate to do so.
