any one have an idea of the crowds during columbus day weekend? we are finding the crowds near veterens day/week-end overwhelming and were looking for another time of year but with kids in school we sort of need to tack it on to a day or two off for a holiday :wave2:

We've visited twice during Columbus Day week. Small crowds, great weather.
My favorite time to visit. These visits were several years ago, and, we too pulled the kids out of school for just a few days. Definitely worth it from my perspective.

thanks for the info. i see you've stayed at ss the past few visits. how do you like it? we are considering it, but this past nov. we stayed at okw and were not satisfied at all. we were in the last villa(furthest from the main pool) and had to take a 10 min. bus ride to and from the pool after waiting about 10 mins for a bus to come. i've heard ss is layed out similar?

ITA! We went during Columbus Day 2004 (b/c DS9's bday fell during the long weekend, so it was a suprise bday gift) weekend and the crowds were not bad at all! The weather was fantastic, too!

I have been to Disney World for Columbus Day and it was not crowded at all. We had pretty good weather too.

I've been to WDW twice in October - both times toward the end, over Halloween - and truly loved both trips.

Weather at the end of Oct is hot enough for shorts and tee-shirts, and for water rides, but the humidity is way down and the average rainfall is very low.

Crowds around Halloween are higher than September, but still way below the summer peaks. Most ride lines are 10 minutes or less (often walk-ons), restaurants are easy to get into without ADRs, and resort rates are Regular season at WDW and off-season low at off-site resorts. Airfare and car rentals tend to be cheaper, too.

I really miss October; I've been taking my WDW trips in December the last few years for MouseFest...

WillCad, you make Oct at WDW sound very appealing. I have always wanted to go around Halloween. I may have to plan my next trip for that time of year.
