How Is MVMCP Different From MNSSHP?

We did both on the same trip last year. Obviously, the main difference is theme. Halloween vs Christmas decorations. Trick or treat vs hot chocolate and cookies. Christmas parade vs. Halloween parade. Haunted Mansion has special photopass pictures and features.

While the 2 parties are similar in the fact that each features a special parade, fireworks, dance parties and very short ride lines, there is quite a bit more to do at the Halloween party including many trick or treat stations, an opportunity to meet the Villains after their show and quite a few special characters that are not available at Christmas. While both parties are awesome, MNSSHP blows MVMCP away. We love the Christmas party, but there is so much to do at the Halloween party, you will be hard pressed to fit everything in during one party.

Well... Here are our options;

We're arriving in Orlando Nov 22nd and checking into a hotel off property for the night, then checking into Disney on Saturday morning.

We were going to head over to Downtown Disney and grab some food there, then see The Hunger Games - Catching Fire on Friday night. Now we realize MVMCP is on Friday also and we've never been. So we were wondering which was our best option.

What do you guys think?

We haven't done MVMCP, but plan to next year. I'd rather spend the night in MK than watching a movie I can see anywhere.

Given the choice between seeing a movie or doing the MVMCP for the first time, I would choose MVMCP! I have been twice before and although its not as good as the MNNSHP, it is still worth a look. I prob would not do it again, but I am glad I did and experienced it. :goodvibes

I think that the main difference between the two parties, next to the theme of course, is the fact that we feel that MVMCP is less stress, we don't feel like we rush from what side of the park to another for trick-or-treating, characters and entertainment.

With that being said, we like both parties! We are doing both of them this November! Can't wait!

We have done both many times in the past..That said we prefer MNSSHP and don't bother going to MVMCP anymore.If you have never done it , it is worth a visit at least once.I think we just stopped going because the MVMCP has gotten so expensive ( and over the years they cut some of the perks and my favorite show)and we can see other special holiday decor and lights that is included in our park tickets.Other than MNSSHP, there isn't really any other way to experience Halloween decor or festivities on site

The theming is the biggest thing.

Instead of trick or treating, there are hot chocolate and cookie stands all around the parks. The characters are all in their winter/Christmas clothes/outfits, it snows on Main Street, the park is obviously all decorated. Then there's the parade, and two stage shows and Holiday Wishes that are all winter/christmas themed

I've done both parties multiple times and I do say that mnsshp is by far superior , but I am a huge halloween fan, so that might be why. If it's not too pricey for you, I'm sure that it's a good experience for everyone!

As others have said, in terms of the basic structure, the two parties are very similar. Both have character meet and greets, a parade, fireworks, dance parties, and something to eat. In terms of how those elements are executed, those vary between the parties.

If you've been to MNSSHP, then you have a sense of how MVMCP is structured. It follows the same basic format. However, to me, the two parties have a very different feel. I like MNSSHP more than MVMCP, but that's because of the Boo-To-You Parade and HalloWishes. Trick-or-treating is more fun than the hot chocolate and cookies (mostly because you take the candy with you and enjoy it for the rest of your trip!). Still, if you like the winter holidays and have the chance to go to MVMCP, I would!

Based on your description, you are trying to decide between DTD/Hunger Games and MVMCP. For me, I would have to hesitate to say go to MVMCP. Hunger Games is playing at theaters all over the country and it'll come out on DVD/Blu-ray eventually, so there are plenty of chances to see it. You can only go to MVMCP if you're in WDW at the right time of the year. DTD is fun and has good food, but I'd still go to MVMCP as my first choice.
