How is Kona for dinner?

Thinking of booking a reservation here. I checked out the menu and it looks good, I haven't heard a lot of talk about it though. We'll have small kids with us too, ages 2 and a half and 8 months, so I'm wondering how it would be with them. Thanks.

I would schedule an early dinner with 2 little kids. My husband and I had a date night dinner here in February, the food was hit and miss (the Tuna Oscar is unbelievably good but the appys were not) and the kitchen was REALLY slow. From what I hear it's not just that night either. We would go back again just to have the Tuna, it was that good, but I would go earlier with the kids just to make sure!

we went for dinner on our last trip ! it was busy but we were served promptly :thumbsup2

BlakesMom Our family always enjoys a meal at Kona...Lots of menu options...good service and a cozier atmosphere than alot of the other restaurants...As far as dining with a young family...there are lots of families there...very kid friendly!! it should be it disney!!:)

The last time we were there, there were alot of kids so its definitely more family oriented. I don't know if you saw but there are kids menus too.

Kona is usually one of the 1TS restaurants we always return to. We've never had a bad meal there. The bread is unbelieveable and we also like the fact that we can order sushi as an appetizer.

My family loves Kona. We have eaten there several times for dinner, and we tried it for lunch this past January. We have always had excellent food and service. This restaurant is totally appropriate for young children. The restaurant is open to the Poly, near the entrance to 'Ohana, and has very tall ceilings, so the acoustics can be loud especially when there are a lot of people mulling around outside for 'Ohana. My DS (age 16) highly recommends your kids try the smoothies. I recommend the Mahi Mahi.

we tried it in Sept and after eating at almost every table service this is by far my fav. I think I will book two dinners for my march trip. My kids had mickey ravioli so they were happy. When we went it was empty. i was deciding between ohana and kona. the ohana line was huge and I am very glad I made the choice I did

We just went to Kona 2 weeks ago. For lack of a better word, it sucked.

We were there on our actual anniversary date and it was the only restaurant all week that didn't acknowledge our anniversary.

We waited 50 min. past our ADR time.

Our entire dining experience was rushed and took 45 min from seating to exit.

The food came out less than 2 minutes after our order and was obviously sitting under heat lamps. It was all dried out and cold. Worst scallops I have ever had.
We really enjoyed the bread and macadamia nut butter, but the server took it off the table was we were still eating it. My father's hands were on it pulling off a piece and she took it away.
The check was brought after our second bite of dessert and we were questioned on exactly how much we were adding to the check for the tip.
There was also a manager with an electronic clipboard hovering next to our table for 15 minutes and marking every action at the tables. It was NOT a relaxing dining experience at all.
Add to it the dried up food and I would never go back for dinner again.

I wanted to like Kona. I enjoy the food at Captain Cookes CS downstairs more. At least it's hot and fresh.

I've been twice and I have enjoyed it very much. I thought the food was excellent and our service was great. One trip was with my Grandchildren. It is very family friendly.
Have a Great Trip

Wow - I'm so sad and sorry Jeanie had such a bad experience. We've had two great BIG family meals there and one fabulous honeymoon breakfast!

Glad there are still other great reviews and the whole place hasn't gone down hill.

I havent been there in 2 yrs but we really enjoyed our meal there. I hear alot of good things about it stil.

I have had good meals there at dinner. Not a bad choice at all.

The breakfast here is amazing though! Not to be missed!

After all the great reviews I had heard I was shocked. I had heard some things about the service being a problem on occasion but I never thought it would be THAT bad. It's why we booked it for our actual anniversary day.

I didn't see anyone else enjoying it that night either.

It was our favorite meal of our June trip. I had the terriyaki steak and Dh had the Tuna Oscar....... amazing

We think it is yummy. The bread they serve with dinner is great. If you go for breakfast you have to try the Tonga Toast.
