Hey We are going the 7th out of Logan....I hear Disney is not busy at all during that week...VERY EXCITED ABOUT NO LINES!!! :earboy2:

I was there in 1/2003. As Disney goes, it was very quiet. We were able to ride several popular attractions several times in a row with no wait.

We were there from January 25 to Feb 5 of 2003. The lines were virutally NON existant. So much so that not only was everything a walk on, most of the Fast Pass machines were not even uncovered. The park hours will be shorter, but it is so easy to navigate the parks, because it is not crowded at all.

The weather can be coolish. If I am remembering correctly, we started most days in shorts and sweatshirts, but by afternoon the sweatshirts ended up in the backpack, or tied around waists. A tad chilly in the evening, but nothing unmanagable. Especially coming from the sub 20 degrees in Mass.

Its our favorite time of year to visit. Have a great time

Thanks guys we are actually looking at the last week of jan 1st week of february. I cant wait our anniversary is on the 9th but I dont think we will make it then. I see alot of you are from MA!!! that is awesome, how bout those sox this year suprised all- and we beat the yankees :cool1:

happy holidays all

My wife and I go every Jan due to the low crowd levels. The down side to a January trip is the weather can vary from shorts and t-shirts to heavy jackets in the span of a few short hours. We are only an eight hour drive from Orlando so are able to pack heavier then if we were flying in.

We always go the last week of Jan. into the first week of Feb. It is our favorite time to go. Very low crowds, and not so hot weather (I think 60's and 70's are perfect..) . Definatly try it out at this time, I bet you would never go during peak times again!! I know we won't!

Definitely plan for colder weather. We were at the Magic Kingdom Jan 24/03 and wore our winter coats, hats and mitts! Thank goodness we drove from Ontario and had all that stuff in the trunk. We were very cozy but several people were spending a fortune on mittens, coats and sweatshirts. We walked on to every ride. It was wonderful!

I am going the last week on Jnauary as well, and out of Logan. All I can say is it won't be as cold as it will be in Boston.

January?

That's when the parks close at 6:00 instead of 12:00 midnight or later.
That's when they hold parades once or twice a week instead of twice per day.
That's when they hold fireworks only on Saturday nights instead of every night.
That's when it's too cold to take advantage of the water parks, the pools, and the water mice.
January is not for me and my family.

Yes, the parks have longer lines in the summer, but with planning you can avoid long waits. We use early entry then hop to another park after lunch, we go back to the hotel for mid-day, we take advantage of Fast Pass and e-ticket nights. In some ways it takes more effort, but we much prefer summer.

MrsPete, no offense but you may want to check a couple of your facts. They are very broad and not accurate at all.

We love Jan/Feb. All the parks do not close at 6, epcot is always open until 9 and MGM/MK until 7, I think..later on weekends. You dont need to be at the park until midnight because you'll have gotten on every ride (at least once) by supper time. We park all day, go for a later supper, then relax at the pool/hottub, DTD or in the condo...we love it.

We've also been to the water parks in Jan, hit the 80s a few times. The weather starts off cooler in the morn and warms up and then cooler later in the evening. We've always had nice weather but we did not go last year when it was unusually cold. We've never needed more than a spring jacket so far.

Personally, we would never go in the summer, way too hot for a park and I couldn't stand the crowds, we are too spoiled with tiny or no line-ups. We prefer to spend summers on the beach :)

The week we are going in January, Epcot is open until 9 pm, MK is open until 8 pm, MGM is open until 7 pm, and AK closes at 5:00. Wishes, fantasmic, illuminations, share a dream come true, stars and motor cars, and the AK parade are all shown every single day. Spectromagic will be shown three times a week.

And, this doesn't even include the new evening magic hours for on-site guests.

Well guys we are most likely leaving on1/29 and coming back the 3 or 4th no definite dates yet. I agree with all the opinions of not wanting to do those summer lines. I know it might be a little colder but it will definitely be colder here at home!!!! Anybody leaving on the 29th from logan? Delta song is offering the fare at 135 which is great!! I cant wait. Thanks for all you responses.

I'm not exactly sure which Walt Disney World you are thinking of -- but you're, of course, completely wrong. The WDW I'll be visiting in about 2 weeks will be a lot different than the one you visit in the heat of summer.

By going during the month of January when many others aren't able to go my family will take advantage of much smaller crowds than your family. With lighter crowds and the Unofficial Guide touring plans, we'll be waiting in line for a minimal amount of time and seeing so much more. We won't have to pick and choose between one attraction or another and we won't need to take the mid-day break because we won't be exhausted by the heat and the crowds.

With the new EMH we can stay in EPCOT until midnight on January 6 and at MK until 10pm on January 5. My family will have Illuminations, Wishes and Fantasmic every night of the week and we won't have to fight the crowds for seats at Fantasmic. Spectromagic will be wonderful -- regardless of whether we see it on January 6, 8 or 10. Add to that something called "The Lights of Winter" at EPCOT from January 1-9. You won't get that in August. Parades are each and every day -- once again, no crowds to push my daughter out of the way.

I was able to book a PS at Cindy's for the morning of Epiphany. I didn't get up early 90 days ahead of time. I didn't practice my number punching technique. I called at around 10:30 in the morning, got through on my first call, waited about 30 seconds before chatting with a WDW Dining CM and casually asked about a PS at Cindy's for January 6. No problem. I had my pick of the entire morning. Same for Princess Storybook Breakfast at EPCOT and same for Chef Mickey's -- "what time would you like?" they always asked me. Openings all morning. Try that in the summer months.

We aren't waterpark people ourselves, but the pools at the Disney Resorts are heated and Canadians in January won't mind anything above 60 degree F. Don't forget the nice hot tubs. Come on in! The water's fine!!

I'm sorry you think that WDW is no place to go in January. I think it's a much more valuable place anytime the crowd levels are nice and light -- and that isn't in the summer in Florida. My time is more valuable than wasting it by standing in line in the heat and humidity of Florida and risking hurricanes when I can be spending it basking in the warmth of a Canadian summer at the beach or in the woods.
