How in the heck is the member login on the dvc members only site a secret? Please tell me that the CM we talked to was just misinformed and that all members don't use the same login info...

How is THAT secure?? and HOW has it remained a secret this long if it is true?

There is only one login and password for everyone and it's never been changed. It's not very secret and no realy reason it should be other than just to cut down on traffic to keep the site from bogging down.

... after you log in you have to place two fingers onto the virtual biometric reader that appears on your screen. If you're not a DVC member, it will reformat your harddrive and the only thing your computor will ever do again is play the "It's a small world" midy file it uploaded.

AND THAT'S A BAD THING?????

There's nothing account specific on the website. So, no need to get worried in that aspect.

But, if this is an attempt to find out what the login and password is....well, it won't work! :p

One other reason I can think of.

The online version of the Member Guide has the MS toll free number in it, which we all pay for.

Now I know that will never be a state secret, and has already appeared on various web sites; that being said, I see no need to make that number further available to non-members who decide to use it to get DVC information, rental confirmations, etc.

KNWVIKING - I will now have to kill you. That song will be playing in my head all day. ;)

Nette:

I have a re-sale pending and asked for the logon and password so I could look at the Member Guide. Someone was kind enough to e-mail it to me privately and there really are no state secrets on that site. I don't feel comfortable sending you the logon and password because it was given to me and I don't want to betray that trust.

But when I become a DVC member and I receive my welcome home packet I will share the logon with you.

Have a magical day and think Disney thoughts.

TOO FUNNY! And too many spaces! ;)

In no way was I asking what the logon was... I am a member and I know what it is. I'm not going to share it.

However, I am becoming increasingly disappointed in the technology available at disney's website(s). Sure, they have the catchy flash stuff down pat (ANNOYING) but the functionality behind the site is pretty crummy... I wonder if they need some new programmers... hmmm.... Oh yeah, they already have my resume...

Since they laid off most of their web development staff about a year or so ago, I wouldn't hold my breath on them calling.

Yeah, well obviously they picked a good place to do layoffs... why layoff people who are actually productive?

I've found that a good rule of thumb is that if something doesn't make any sense at all, there's probably lawyers involved. So I always assumed that the password was there to keep non-members from being exposed to marketing materials.

But regardless, there's really nothing there that's a secret. And what IS there has some pretty cruddy presentation.

Putting up a web site login with a single username and password is a relatively easy thing to do. Heck, even I could do it.

But connecting it to a database of 60000 member names and member numbers, and letting each use their own username and password, would require knowing what you're doing. As long as they're not offering any serious online services and security is not a real issue, there's no point.

If they decide to offer online services, they will have to get serious and hire (or subcontract to) some real web site developers.

They are rumored to be headed toward online points accounting and reservations. It still isn't that much of an issue to set up an online password authentication for a database such as DVC. Sounds like a good job for Pete.

We own another t/s which we trade through RCI. They have a pretty good site where I have a user name and password and can view all of my account info online. I can see my history, view my travel plans, and even make exchanges without having to call in and be put on hold forever! I hope Disney is headed that way. My DH would LOVE to help them set it up, they already have his resume too!

That Pete guy pops in every now and then and like every board. Hmm, how does it do it? Are the moderators letting him know? Is he watching us? He Big Brother Pete??

Or maybe he every single post on this site as they are posted, thus the message you are now being taken to your post (it sends him an email at that time). Pete your mailbox must be full....

BTW, keep the PW secret, I do not want anyone infringing on my benefits...
