thinking of just going to get the Cobb salad and try the grapefruit cake?? I am not using 2 TS credits so I thought I would go and try this and pay OOP....I just saw a special on the travel channel on the grapefruit cake and it looks heavenly, so I was wondering what everyone thought?:thumbsup2
Thanks

I did that a few years ago (pre-DDP). I just wanted the Cobb Salad, and walked up to the restaurant and asked when I could get in for lunch (expecting to make a reservation). I was seated right away. If I can't get a reservation for Lunch with an Imagineer, I'm planning to do the same this trip.

We really enjoyed HW Brown Derby - ate there on both our last trips. Didn't have the grapefruit cake though as didn't have the stamina for dessert - but will need to make a special effort when we return as everyone seems to love it!

It's been a few years since I've been there, but I remember the Cobb Salad being one of the best I've had. Haven't tried the Grapefruit Cake. Haven't been back since we've been on the dining plan each trip and family does not want to pay OOP or use 2 TS there. :)

We do the Fantasmic dinner package every trip at the Brown Derby. The Cobb salad and grapefruit cake are excellent. If you ask, they will give you pre-printed recipe cards for each. I have both. We just love the Brown Derby!

We did the very same thing last summer! I didn't want to waste 2 TS credits, so we went for lunch (lower prices and smaller meal) and paid OOP. I don't recall what DH ate, but I had the Cobb salad (heavenly!!) and we shared the Grapefruit Cake. I liked it but it wasn't the most amazing cake I've ever tasted or anything. Word of advice, don't try to eat the candied slice of grapefruit on top. Sooooo bitter and terrible. It really is meant as a garnish! :rotfl:

All in all, I'm glad we went to the Brown Derby, as DH had always wanted to see it, but I don't know that we'd rush back. The food is great and the service is impeccable, but I just think that 2 credits is a bit much.

DF and I had the fantasmic dinner package at brown derby last dec and we loved it so much we are getting it again this yr. We didn't try the cobb salad though...have to try that dessert...sounds yum.

We really, really like the Cobb salad there. It's all I ever order. Haven't tried the grapefruit cake--I'm always too full of Cobb salad!

dsnygirl2006: Have you ever been to the Brown Derby? The ambiance is lovely.

Girldreamer02: I just love your photo. It must have been so awesome! Congratulations!

Thank you :) Awsome dosen't even begin to describe how wonderful that night was. I couldn't stop crying. The lady (you can see her in the one pic shes wearing the blue sweater) couldn't stop crying either. She offered me some tissues it was so sweet. I think the husband even got a little teary eyed...they had a little girl dressed as a princess so I let her look at my glass slipper. She loved it and so do I. I told df that he needs to buy me a display cabinet once we get married so I can put it in there for all to see(its in its box right now at his rents house...there isn't a real safe place to display it in my room at my rents house.)

I LOVE the Brown Derby...but agree it is kind of a waste on the DDP....the Cobb salad is to die for. The lobster bisque also. We will be there for lunch in 2 weeks...can't wait for my cobb and soup!! The grapefruit cake was kind of a let down IMHO...it was good, just not anything to get excited about as far as I was concerned and DH agrees.

This is exactly what we're doing. Lunch at Brown Derby (Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake for me) and we are paying OOP. We had lunch at the Brown Derby in January and enjoyed it very much. I don't want to use two of our Free Dining credits, so we're going to pay OOP.

We are now thinking of canceling the Fantasmic package that we had with them since all in our dining party would each have to use 2 TS.

Now we are thinking of sharing two meals (4 TS) between the 4 of us (all on DDP). We may get a cobb salad or lobster bisque in addition.

Of course, we realize that we would not get the Fantasmic package any longer. But is it really necessary if we are dining at 5:10 pm and going to see Fantasmic at 8 pm?

We are planning to go Monday, October 8 and I don't think we would have a problem getting a fairly good seat by standing in the regular line. We should be finished eating by 7 I would guess.

Would you cancel the Fantasmic package? and save some of our TS?

auntsue: I never thought to ask for a recipe card. Since we're not dining there in Sept. any chance you could send me a PM with the cobb salad recipe? TIA :)

Wonderful cobb salad, meh to the grapefruit cake. When we were there they had some kind of flourless chocolate cake. To. Die. For. It was like a warm solid fudge MUFFIN!

I'd pass on the grapefruit cake and pick something else, but definitely DO have the cobb salad. Has anyone warned you how different the salad is though? The first time it was a bit of a surprise, but a fun one after you hear the back story. :cool2:

I'd skip the Cobb salad (only because I'm not a fan of Cobb salads) but never skip the grapefruit cake! BD is the ONLY place you can get this dessert and it is very very good.

I'm doing the exact same thing! I've been dying to try the cobb salad & grapefruit cake there forever, and that's really all I want so it's not worth 2 TS. I made an ADR for lunch and we're paying OOP - so excited!!!
