I am trying to try and figure out when we might try and get a ressies for next summer. We were going to go for 5 nights to celebrate New Year's but decided to wait and try for a summer trip there instead plus we don't get a long Christmas break.

SO..........back on topic I go. How is HHI over the 4th? Is it a hard ressie to get at the 7th month window? We would want a 2 br. Would our chances be better in mid June, later in July after the 4th?? I heard they do fireworks all summer once a week so what else happens on the 4th at HHI?

Then again we might not even get in at all at the 7 month window. :sad1: It is sooooooo hard pin pointing a week with my high school son's summer soccer camps, summer league. Aghhhhhh I guess our 2nd choice could be Vero. We want to go to the beach for a week.

HH is at it's busiest from mid June thru Mid August. 2BRs are usually the easiest to reserve at 7 months during that time. I'd call right at 7 months and be as flexible as possible regarding the dates you want. July 4th week is always at 100% occupancy. Early June might have a better chance for availability, but you never know what will be available right at 7 months so there's always a chance for success and in addition, the waitlist does also work.

The fireworks are every Tuesday all summer long (from Memorial Day thru mid August) and there is also a display on the 4th. They are fired from a barge anchored in the marsh right behind the resort. In the event of rain they will cancel the fireworks though.

Good luck! :)

Thanks Doc! I think I will call at the 7th month for June and if no luck, keep trying at the 7th month probably avoiding the 4th of July week then.

If you're interested in being there on the 4th, I'd still call to check availability - you never know what will be available. 2BRs have often been available for dates throughout the summer months, so you should have a good chance for success.

Good luck! :)

We stayed at the HHI resort in a 2 bedroom over 4th of July in 2007. It was amazing. They had an awesome pool party, bbq, followed up by Disney fireworks. There was a nice balcony with a picnic table to eat outside our room and a real comfy kitchen table to enjoy some air conditioning. It's a great resort with a beach club about a mile from the resort. Use LOTS of sunscreen -- you'll want it in the South Carolina sun. The resort offered all sorts of activities -- beach parties for the kids at the beach house with dinner, etc.

I remember you weren't sure about your Dec trip to HHI, but I think you're smart to try it first with warmer weather-it's such a great beach, the beach house is beautiful-you could have warm weather in December, but it could also be cool.If summer doesn't work out, does your college daughter have a fall break? We were there in mid-late Sept and it was still 80 something. I think even October could be warm. We're going to try for a 2br in June or late August (so my DD and DSil teachers can go with us) but if there isn't anything available we'll go back in Sept by ourselves.

Yeah we were going to go in Dec. and I would rather hold off for summer for a few reasons. I would rather go there for a week vs. 4 or 5 nights since it is a 9 hour drive for us and our Christmas break is so short we will probably feel so rushed over the holidays if we squeeze that HHI trip in. We are used to flying to WDW in 2 hours. We are spoiled. I would feel like that is a lot of driving for a quick trip. Plus we would like to NOT spend that money around Christmas. We have done the Thanksgiving 8 day trip the past 2 Nov. and that takes a lot of moola right around the holidays. I am trying to be a smart Disney planner with our finances. It is so hard though. My heart says "GO GO GO PLAN PLAN PLAN". We have been a lot the past 2 1/2 years so we are slow w w w w wing it down now. ;)

My daughter has great breaks now. However my other two kids don't. She has 5 weeks off at Christmas and gets out in mid May but the boys only get off like 7 school days at Christmas and don't get out until mid June. Their spring breaks don't match either. Actually next Oct. we are going to MNSSHP and she will more than likely not be going. BOOOHOOOOOOO. :sad2: So I know our chances of getting in a week's vacation with everyone's schedule.... is in the summer.

However we really want to take a break from Disney this next summer. We have done 3 summer trips in a row. I want to branch out and try other DVC resorts including HHI and Vero plus try going to Disney for some of their special events at other times of the year (that we don't usually do) instead of the same stuff we have been doing for many years now. We have taken long summer trips and now I want to spread it out so we can pop down for 3 or 4 days during the year. So less days in the summer and we can do that. We have never been to the Halloween party, Star Wars weekends, Food and Wine and it has been years since Flower and Garden. We have done the Christmas Party the past two Nov. trips and we did the Princess and Pirate Party too...so time to try some new events. So.....we are hoping we can pin point a week in July to go to HHI. FINGERS AND TOES ARE CROSSED. My son really wants to take a beach trip and I just like the idea of a relaxing peaceful down time trip. HHI seems to have all of those qualities. From what I have heard anyway.

So (shhhhh don't tell).....we will take a night and go to Hershey Park over Christmas break to do their special event.....another thing we have never tried and we live 1 1/2 hours from Hershey. It won't be Disney....but it will be okay. :goodvibes

we own a home there and after choosing not to go one year for the fourth of july, my family of 6 vowed never to miss again. while they have harbourfest every tuesday night during the summer, it is even longer and bigger on the fourth. since you do not have to worry about parking you will have it made from there at the resort. some of the restaurants within walking distance will take reservations on that night, but most on the island do not!!!!! it is VERY busy, and just as hot as orlando at that time of year, but if you know that going in and go with the island flow, you will have a wonderful time!!!!!!!!
