How is gratuity calculated for TIW?

We are trying to compare TIW with DDP and are wondering where to take that 20% off. We are a party of 6 so the 18% gratuity is automatically calculated for us. Would the 20% be calculated before the tip?

We have been doing research as well and if I am not mistaken, the 20 percent comes off the bill (pre-tip) but you pay the 18% tip on the full amount of the bill before the 20% discount.

That's correct. The tip is always calculated on the non discounted total.
